Hi This is my latest Lc, bought from Muddyfox on this forum and delivered by Mick - rdlclazy, on Sunday; DSCN3745 by David Miller, on Flickr DSCN3739 by David Miller, on Flickr When Muddyfox bought it, the bike had been cobbled together, and he had to do some work to get everything working as it should. I liked the fact it had an Rgv front and rear conversion too. As with all bikes, there are things I will change, but it's comfy and roadworthy. I want to put a standard airbox back on, change the headlight brackets to bring the light back in a bit and change the bars to Renthal straights. Although it has had a paintjob, ideally I would like more of a standard scheme, but that will have to wait, but the tank and plastics seem in good nic so that's good. I want to ride it so no big rebuilds - yet !! Dusty

Nice bike to start out with, looks clean already. And yes, get that headlight in a bit, looks funny now with it that far out!

Hi, Bike will need some jobs doing but it's roadworthy which is what I wanted. I was after an old school Lc really, box section swingarm, Allspeeds etc, but liked this when Muddyfox posted it for sale. I had bought the Metmachex from Carbonpaul before I got this, and this obviously has the Nk converted Rgv swingarm and wheel set up already fitted. The Metmachex was made for a Ypvs rear wheel, and ideally I want to use the Metmachex arm, so I will need to see if the Rgv set up will work - it's certainly wider than the Ypvs set up. I spose the thing to do would be get spare Rgv wheel spacers and caliper carrier and get them machined to fit in the narrower Metmachex arm. The pipes are genuine original Allspeeds in really good nic and sound lovely, but I want to lose the filters and refit an airbox. Also found the carbs are 31k items, and the bike is running rich. I'm no Lc expert, so, can I leave the 31k's on or am I better getting 4l0 carbs with airbox/Allspeeds ? Bars look like Renthal ultralow's and they are ultrawide! I want to put straights on like my F2 hybrid, change the headlight brackets to bring it back in a bit, add some indicators too. The forks will get polished - not too blingy, same with the footrests and rad, maybe add a rad guard too. Mirrors are off and the blue carbon effect side covers are now black again. Need to sort the lock stops too; /URL]
I want to sit the clocks up a bit too, so may get the clock bracket re-angled. Seat will need recovering too but is fine for the moment.
Cheers
Dusty

Dusty, I have 31k carbs on my LC, and they are fine. Not worth getting 4L1 carbs in my opinion if you already have 31k unless you are after a perfect standard restore (which you obviously aren't).
They are the next progression from the LC carbs before the YPVS went power jet.
I also have a set for the YPVS I'm building now, as they are better to set up, especially on tuned motors.
How much steering lock have you got at present? If it was more than needed, I would get some spacers machined with a recess for the existing cap heads. This would spread the load and stop the screws bending, but then I try and find any excuse to use my lathe. Possibly an eccentric bore so you could adjust the lock?

Hi Jon, That's good to know about the carbs I didn't want to change them if it wasn't necessary, but I would like to fit an airbox at some stage. I was looking at the swingarm today, and felt the hugger made it look a bit bulky ; DSCN3742 by David Miller, on Flickr So I decided to remove it and I think it looks better; DSCN3775 (2) by David Miller, on Flickr Dusty

i was thinking about puting a hugger on my lc. I thought that it would be a lot of hassle to fabricate. I am now sure i like the raw look without a hugger, cheers Dusty you saved me some headaches.

Hi The standard mudguards are still fitted, albeit cut down, so the hugger is overkill really. If you could make something small and neat it could look good, but I felt this standard hugger was just a bit too bulky. Dusty

Hi I plan to ride it for the summer, doing little jobs as I go, and then do some bigger jobs over next winter. It's had a good paintjob, and I might look into getting some Lc style decals for it. I'll update as I go. Be good to see yours progress too Regards Dusty

Hi Baz The domed Yam badges on the tank are stuck on, so if I can get them off without damaging the paintwork that will be a result. I had a look at Norbos decal kits and quite like the speedblocks like I had on my old Lc; Norbo does them in white so I think that would look good on the blue paintwork. I don't want to spend big bucks on paintjobs so this may be a fix for now. Martig, as far as I am aware, the engine is standard, when I bought it off Laurence he told me it was on standard bores and was a good engine. It has 31k carbs fitted and paper filters, plus 6mm reed spacers, and I want to fit an airbox back on and get the fuelling closer to standard set up as it's very rich at the moment. I'm not building it for anything other than standardish performance really. I had toyed with breaking my F2 which is up for sale, and putting the valve lump in this but I want to keep it as an Lc engine so I've shelved that idea Regards Dusty

Looks like a nice rideable project you have there, I would put a proper engine in it though. Jess

Hi Wayne, That bike was on ebay a couple of weeks back. It was not far from me and I was interested in going and seeing it with a view to placing a bid on it, but he sold it off ebay before I got a chance. I believe it was on ebay a year or so before and it went for around 5k. I think most if not all the work was done before he got it. Sure someone on this forum mentioned something about it. Sure is a nice bike though and shows what you can do with Rgv front and rear ends. That is what drew me to my bike really, although I now have a nice Metmachex sat on the bench with no home to go to ! Dusty

Hi Jess, It did cross my mind to put the F2 lump into this, but as there were no takers for the F2 when I advertised it, I am planning on taking my old frame and petrol tank up to Meadspeed and seeing what race seat I could use instead, so may end up keeping it. Plus I like the idea of keeping the Lc engine in this to keep it partly old skool !! Dusty

Hi Wayne The guy that just sold it owned it from August last year, and bought it already done. It had a ground up rebuild. Rgv front and rear ends complete, Jim Lomas pipes, Ramair filters, tuned engine running Castrol R premix. Guillari seat, Samco style rad hoses, chrome rad guard and wavey discs. Dusty

The ones on the like K7/8 GSXR1000s may do the job for a decent price.

im glad you changed your mind about breaking f2 after all the work that has gone into it dont know what drugs you was on when you thought about breaking it but dont take anymore as they are giving you wild delusions all the best dusty..

Haha, never wanted to sell the F2, especially when I think of all the jobs I've done and how much it all cost. I got it out the garage the other day and did think how much I liked it; Putting the Lc against it on the drive made me realise how much work will be needed to get the Lc as clean as the valve; I'm selling some parts that will enable me to take the old f2 frame I have and the petrol tank up to Meadspeed in Bucks, to see if a Tz seat will fit. This will mean I can use one of their upholstered seat pads which may raise seat height a bit. I know most on here didn't like the existing seat, and I don't disagree, and I saw an F2 on the Facebook page with an "H" seat fitted and it looked good. I chop and change my mind all the time, so you never know what stupid ideas I will come up with ! Hey Copper, Stasky's lovely blue/white hybrid in the finished builds section has a nice little hugger on it. That would look good. Cheers Dusty
