Yes it starts H but seems to have 3 numbers so most likely a Y on the end making it correct

My alarms go off when I read that phrase as well. It often (but not always) means 'item beyond reasonable economic repair and I got stuck with it!'

ahh... that engine number does raise a flag or two. It does make me sad to see this as what does the next owner do? Had it been an original non matching number then it would at least be original, now its tainted no matter what you do. Its going to hit the value on this and the next sale no matter what as its plainly not the original number for this engine, so therefore its not a matching numbers bike and not worth what one would value it at etc. Plus its going to draw comment and red flags for anyone in the future. It should have just been left alone ...but, the good news and a mega upside is that he says its got genuine 350 tie bars fitted... those pesky 250 versions were weak as. "Brief history of the bike- it’s a 1981 model X reg, originally painted by dream machine by the dealer in that year, it was also converted by the dealer when new from a 250 to a 350 with all the correct parts, (even the engine tie bars) it has matching 4L1 numbers and they match the log book etc"
(An '81 would have had tie bars from new of course, so its not that they were added to this frame... unless the frame isnt an 81 and is restamped as well?) Joking aside, someone has spent quite a bit of money on this project and made it quite nice if you like the paintwork as delivered etc. LAst thought: I am always surprised when people overpay for something and then claim the bill like its something they want to get their money back on. IMHO, 250 sovs for a seat cover sounds like a massive rip off to me, but what do I know...

Thats a bit open ended... what about us? Did ebay remove the love hearts (or finger?) emojis?

That's not the same seller as the usual Welsh bloke
The clue is in the numbers 😉

Probably hoping the shiney bits distract from the horror of the engine number .
That's a big NO from me.

Or is it? maybe it was stolen many years ago? On the basis I've never seen any chain damage take that much case out, and the cut seems pretty square where the chain number started , I'd think it's more than suspect . Should have made that more clear originally.

Yep 🙄
They may have had a slight premium price selling in the country that actually has that prefix but certainly not in the UK
If anything it harms the value over here
I have a really nice set of Canadian LC cases to sell but unsure of pricing as not 4L1/4L0

But if you don’t know and can’t be arsed to check. I’m not quite sure where you’re coming from? Do you mean the buyer or the seller? I suspect that the seller knows and is just out to rip someone off who is not in the know? Who knows though it could be the seller doesn’t know I suppose? Certainly that was the case a while back when I pointed this out to a seller a while back. He couldn’t have cared less, and accused me of be some kind of vigilante for even mentioning it. Either way you’re right. Just a shame. I suppose I was in the know as I tried to get as many plastic parts for my YPVS that were still available. Metal can be welded, filled and painted to look new. But scuffed old faded plastic is more difficult. Jon

The sellers don’t care as they know that some buyers don’t check they just read the blurb and buy into how rare they are. Business is business and they won’t have a conscience about selling it. Buyers need to be more aware. Same as it ever was.
