I've had several of both and the fz1 is a much better bike if you can stretch your finnaces. The power delivery is fantastic, you can keep up with yr mates on there sports bikes, and a much better ride position. The Fz1's have a big horrible exhaust as standard, the paint is prone to peeling. Some people change for after market although i like to keep the bike standard. Other than that, very reliable. Having said that I'm selling mine to have a summer on 2-strokes, but will be back on an FZ1 next year. Mines up for sale..... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321382455731?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649Located in Yorkshire.

would take a 1000 over the 600
got the older fzs and is brilliant. tame but grunty at low revs but rev it and it fair shifts.
engines bullet proof, over 100k not uncommon, just avoid anything just under 25k miles as valve check needed then which i believe is around£400 from a dealer so best if way under or has been done
with any yam replacement bodywork is scary new, top fairing with decals for mine is over £500 but thankfully second hand bits common on ebay

The missus has an 07 FZ6 and loves it, Akrapovic slip on's, minus the noise baffle, makes it sound mint
She has a Calsci large touring screen and heated grips (yes it does get cold in Oz) and a Hepco and Becker top box and crash bars with 1" up and back risers, HID lights and LED driving lights
Good fuel economy, handles nice (get rid of the Dunlops that come with it and go Michelin Pilot Power ) very comfy for long rides and good range from the tank
It certainly ticks all the boxes for her and I don't mind it either
FZ1 are a darn lot quicker, but would you really use all that power, I'll throw a few spanners at you, FZ8 which is in between the two are also nice, or if you want to go a bit bigger, but ride the torque curve instead then I wouldn't go past the half faired 1250 Bandit or the fully faired 1250FA
It will accelerate fine but obviously not as quick as the bigger FZ's
A lot cheaper than Yamaha, at least down here, and you still have really good low down grunt but without that real peakiness of the FZ1
It will cruise at 70MPH all day at about 3000 rpm in top just roll on and off the throttle in top from 30MPH all the way to licence removal territory and still give fantastic range
The bad bit about it is the front section of the seat, much too flat, I had mine scalloped out to fit my backside, a lot more comfy now
Hope that helps
