Hi All, Help needed please for a complete novice to RD's. I have had the engine over hauled but when on the road it doesn't seem to want to hit the powerband I have a 87 F2 and my questions are: When looking up the exhaust port should the power valves be flush with the barrel and when it does it's whurly bit on start up lower the exhaust port angle? as I would have thought that it should be the other way arround! Also on the slide for the carbs should the curved part of the slide be inlet side or outlet, as I have taken them apart and not sure which way arround could this be the answer to above? And lastly could it be poor reeds? Your experience and help would stop me pulling my hair out Thanks Vin

hi m8 re the carb slides they only go in one way,or they should theres a pin in the carb body that should locate in the slot on the slide. the dimple on the slide should face the right side of the bike, the kickstart side.

Hi mellow I thought that they could only go in one way until now, they are not interchangeable and are different part no's! The difference is that one end of the slide is flat and the other curved and this is where I'm stuck!! I'm not sure if the curved part should be inlet side or outlet side Hope this makes sense, Vin.

the carbs have the cutaway facing rear...my mate done the same thing once on one of his carbs...dont know how cos as mellow says they should only go in one way...but i know this can happen...i dont have a running valve at the mo,but i would have thought the valve would cycle from down-up-down on start up...someone will know mate im sure...

Thanks pablo, I was wrong in saying that the slides are different they are not ,it is just the slide ways are in the carbs! so the cut aways can face inlet side or outlet side. Your thoughts are the same as mine regarding the valves so if someone on here can help please let me know! dirtbag, The plugs look like they are getting enough fuel and the bike sounds fine stood still but I agree that they will probably need setting up. I have a clean filter and standard jets. The bike feels fine low down in the revs but when you open her up it feels a little restrictive or chokey!! Vin

should certainly be quicker than that id have thought mate....do you eat alot of pies... ...my old shagged out 250LC used to be that quick...and it really was shagged out...hmmm...some people on here reckon on 125 for a valve...i siezed my 350LC at just over 100,i was just changing into top so it had more to come...summits up id say...

Well, being as it is a performance issue - sorry to hijaxk your thread Vin..... Got an RD350 YPVS FII, 86 model. Just rebuilt the engine around 750 miles ago (new gaskets & selas throughout, reconditioned crank, rebore & pistons, carefully riffler filed the edges of all ports on the bore slightly for sharp edges, same with pistons to remove casting marks and so on) and it's run in now. Seems to pull really well up to about 7 grand then goes a bit flat. Top it'll do on the flat is about 95mph. Whang the throttle open in second and for some reason I'm not landing on my back with the bike on top of me. It seems to be about on a par with my old RD250 as far as I can tell. Am I expecting too much from the 350 YPVS or is mine seriously poorly ? It is nippy to around 70, but i kinda expected the odd wheelie and i'm disappointed....... i would have thought 7000 it should START really pulling?

to say the least...ive got a valve motor to go in my LC one day...ive never rode a valve...ive heard they are quicker but dont feel as fierce because of the powervalve...smooths the band i spose...should still be quicker tho

well, my old 250 pulled well up to about60...as quick as a Z650..then he started to pull away...my old 350 pulled like a train...kept up ok with my mates gsx750 on the lanes...no chance on the straight tho...didnt used to bother gettin me head down till about 85 90...so thats about where id say that one started slowing down...think that one had a bit of a tune though cos the exhaust port had a v shaped notch out of the top...aint trashed this one yet...watch this space...should be soon...

I think rizkat covered it well but to recap . The cut out faces the airbox. The valves should be in the closed position after the cycle and open as the revs clime . You can ajust the valve by turning the cables untill the cut out on the bit the cables go in to lines up with the holl next to it . A valve should do around 115 to 120 top end and leve a lc standing if both are atandard. Have a look at you sprockets to may be over geared, some thing people do seem to over look .
