Love it Mate, the carb models are still plenty fast enough. I have a '98 4xv and it still gives me a great buzz when I RIDE IT.

02-03 injected mate. 98-99 4XV carbed 00-01 5JJ carbed 02-03 5PW injection homepage.ntlworld.com/ratkat/r1rampage/history.htm 98 is no faster than the model after, maybe it felt it because it shook its head a bit more haha. Mines running WP race shock, and 02-03 yokes as they changed the offset to make it more stable. Steering damper too, still can be a handful but perfectly manageable most of the time.

I can 100 percent say there is a 02 carb model mate,if not it's a ringer and my genuine yam dealship is selling dodgy bikes I can 100% tell you it was built 00-01 and registered a year late. It happens a lot when bikes in stock don't sell etc. I've seen a few 08 model R1s out there with 09 plates when I was looking at Big Bang R1s for sale. The plate doesn't actually tell you much, it's like all those brand new unregistered benelli tornados knocking about, if you buy one it'll be registered as a brand new 2014 bike even though it was built like 6 years ago or whatever.

Anyways the carb model is the best and much more fun, like Star Wars the first 3 were good then they messed the rest up,excellent bike if you have a 1998 in mint condition it will be worth a small fortune in a few years just like the lc

Yup a lot of people bad mouth carbed superbikes. Like they take a lot more keeping on top of which is total bollocks. I love mine, it's been no trouble and the delivery is absolutely silky smooth. Nothing like the choppy injected bikes I have ridden. Not ridden a bang up to date injected bike though. Agree the 98 will always be the collectible one as it was the original game changer, but it's not better than the 00-01. Just has more cult status. I'd be happy with either

I love that, looks real nice, I had the first off the injected ones and its very smooth, the fly by wire ones are choppy low down but ive sorted mine by dropping a tooth on the front sprocket and a pc111 , ive ridden a few off the carb models and love em, wheelie machines Donny

Mines a 2002 5jj as well , came from george whites when they used to knock the previous models out cheap . It's a fantastic bit of kit but it's starting to show its age against the newer stuff though My mates got a new shape blade and it leaves mine for dead. His might be a bit ( lot ) quicker but its still a blade Here's a pic of mine

They can be made to handle very well mate if showing its age you mean it doesn't handle great? Mine wasn't very good standard, 55 back tyre and decent shock to jack the back end up a bit, fork service and drop through the yokes a bit. Also the 02-03 5pw yokes help improve the steering. Gone -1 front sprocket, bmc filter, ivans airbox mod. Doesn't make the power of the newer bikes but there's only so much of it you can exploit on the road I don't have any trouble keeping up with most people, when I can't it's always because they're a better rider lol, too easy to blame the bike

Hi Ken, Nice little collection there. Where did you pick up the R1 from? How did the RD finished up. Last I read you had to do some rebuilding. Cheers Philippe

I also had the last carbed R1 in Red, it was brilliant, I would happily have another one, being a shortarse git it fitted me fine, Track days, sunday morning blasts and foreign trips it could do the lot

They really are amazing bits of kit.Every time I ride mine it blows my mind especially as most of my biking years have been old air cooled ZEDS and LCS.

I had an 01 just like yours from new, back in 01. Bought from Whites in Swindon. Loved that bike, rode it to France and all over. Wish I still had it.

I was half tempted to sell it at one point but I can't see what I could replace it with for the money Still looks alright for an old girl too been out today, MOT new tyre on front and popped to settle.
