Hi Thumper, very generous offer you are making, excellent. Should be coming again for the Classic/Manx TT 2014. This will be our fith year spannering for my Mrs brother who races a CBR600rr and a SP1. This year we also have a Honda 500/4 classic to compete with hopefully in the GP class. If I can borrow a van I hope to bring my RD500 over this time, last year we drove the car and the year before we hired a van and I bought my CB1300 and the Mrs her CG125 on L-plates - fantastic time. My 72 year old Mum also flew over and I had to take her for a couple of laps. She loved it motoring on over the mountain. She did comment it was a bit faster than Dad's old Velocette. Fantastic place, fantastic atmsphere especially camping in the paddock, fantastic people. Not so sure about the new time table of Classics at the start and the Manx at the end of the week. Kind of gave a little bit of them and us feeling to the event, but heho. If we manage to pull off the 500/4 and CBR600 and SP1 plans though we will be busy start to finish. I will keep in touch nearer the time especially if I do bring the RD500 over would be good to meet up. Rich.

Yeah will do mate. I've just seen in your status that you've got a GS1200 ?. Had a funny encounter with a local on a GS1200 over the Mountain section last year . It was fairly early in the morning, and as I went around the Gooseneck, I noticed a couple of bikes parked up on the left. Didn't take any notice of them really, just carried on at 50mph until I got to the national speed limit signs, then started to pick up the pace a bit. I then caught a glimpse of a headlight in my Mirror during the first section (I'm pretty paranoid about Mr Plod on his camera bike out there, so don't go stupid) but after a blast up the Mountain mile section it was pretty much out of sight behind. A bit further up I noticed the bike was still occasionally flashing in my mirror at a distance, so decided it was either Mr Plot chasing me, or someone pretty quick that was on it. So I decided that when I got to the Verandah I would slow down enough for whoever it was to pass. Well bugger me if it wasn't a BMW GS1200 on local plates . Having made the decision that it wasn't Mr Plod, I then decided I'd stick behind best I could and follow him the rest of the way to the Cregg. I could easily have blasted away up Hailwood Rise and probably kept in front but he was a bit quicker than me on the tighter stuff that I still don't know that well and he was using every bit of road and pushing the abilities of the bike, so decided I'd let him show me the lines . When we got to the Cregg he pulled over (assume to wait for his friend who was nowhere to be seen), we gave each other a nod and I carried on to Laxey down the back road. I'm guessing being a local and knowing the road like the back of his hand he was sitting at the Gooseneck waiting for non-locals on sports bikes to have a tear-up with Roll on this year Well one thing for sure, it wasn't me !, are you sure its him/her being a local or just you being slow ? The GS is a stunning ride around town and in the twisties limited on the straights though, a little like watching a good rider on a 2 stroke in mixed proddie racing against much bigger machines. As you say roll on this year, hope to see you, PS I prefer riding about during the Manx pehaps its an age thing, i prefer to blame it on the missus wanting to ride then !

Hi Rich, Same offer goes for the Manx, BBQ etc, me and missus prefer riding around during the Manx/whatever they call it now, I spannered for a side car for 12 years and the paddock is ace, we have always thought that the Manx attracted a majority of motorcyclists and the TT bikers, although a mix of both always. I think its because the roads are not so packed and the focus is on racing etc, this is evident by the lack of entertainment laid on outside of motorcycles, although some claim its due to lower numbers of visitors which to a degree I agree (poetry) Keep in touch so I can send contact details nearer the time, always up for a ride or a beer, or a brew. Pete
