You have a few options, locally Laxey football club turn pitch into site with clubhouse (I can find/send detail), or my lawn with bike parking use of house for loo and brews etc, buses and trams nearby for bikeless boozing trips or rainy days (not on the Manx Riviera surely)and 4 pubs, or Douglas lots of camp sites, usualy involve walk to town, some are hectic and noisy (Germans !!) depends on what you like.
We have been coming years main problem is where to stay, what to do if wet, and cost of brews and food (burger being the staple camp diet at a cost too) we used to come in a converted truck with bikes on board, I spannered for a side car team for 12 years and so was in the paddock. we love this place and locals etc helped us for years so we would like to do our bit for others now we finally live here (5 years almost)
We own a paving company and due to the number of bike riding tossers who decend on the Island we cannot work TT as the roads close and suppliers won't deliver, it looks like we have no choice other that to relutantly make the most of the TT (what a hardship)
Have you been before or will you be a TT virgin ? binging others ? where do you live ?

I am indeed a tt virgin, live in the Midlands near coventry. Planning on riding up and getting the ferry, need to check the ferry costs too I guess. May have one or two others depending what a few lads at work say. If I have lots others will go for one of the campsites so not to invade your garden too much. As with any of these events I guess the cost of food and drink is always going to be inflated.

Keep in touch and will arrange whatever, the prices don't get put up for the TT, its just that the takeaway vans etc aren't here except for the event so their prices are what they are, avoid these and the prices are the same as all year, same with beer etc, all the music in pubs etc is free and so it is to watch the racing from as little as 2 feet away sat on a wall, only the grand stands charge, the pits are free too. Its just buying every cup of tea and snack that mounts up,
Its the greatest free show on earth,
The shock is the ferry, cheapest way is if you know someone with a minibus ex seats and ram full of bikes. only one ferrry company Isle of MAn Steam Packet with another rumoured to commence soon, it may be late to find sailings to suit already, popular sailings are booked a year in advance, trick is to book what ever then move as cancellations turn up, the festival lasts for a fortnight, with short circuit racing, beach racing, trials, red arrows, firework displays, lots of live music, street entertainment (all free too) beer is in plenty supply and cheapish (bitter around £2.60 a pint brewed on the island, 3 breweries) steam train, electric railway and horse drawn trams plus castles museums etc as a side line, and if you have never been the island is stunning, can be seen on youtube along with the action, filmed from on bike and from where you can stand.
Plus the National speed roads have no speed limit, the mountain section is made one way for the two weeks so no on coming vehicles, it is still amazing to ride past a parked police car at 100mph plus and receive nothing more than a smile if your not riding like a knob, reckless, careless dangerous driving are all frowned upon severely.
I will warn you that if its a sucessful trip it becomes adictive and an annual pilgramage is the only cure !!!!!!!!!! great place to bring a partner too. Then theres the Manx grand prix/classic TT later in the year for another two weeks of two wheeled mayhem.....

The majority of "green lanes" have a picture of a horse and a motorbike, as they are open to both, (personally I have never seen one on the other though) yes in summer you can cover pretty much the entire place off road, (unlike Glossop where we used to live,) the majority of the lanes close in winter for repair and to help preserve them,
You can get to some superb places to watch the racing on off road bikes and the bonus is your not stuck there till the roads re open.
There are some excellent vids on youtube of off roading on the Isle, amazing how many miles you can travel concidering the Isle is only 27 miles by 11 ish..........

The ban it brigade are over here too, fortunately there is a saying with some truth that the Island is about 20years or so behind the UK, so most lanes still open, there are a lot of folk with bikes here so reasonable opposition to the rambling tossers. Keep in touch, if its the lanes you want come outside of the TT ferry loads cheaper 5 day or week end special, its quieter too, unless you want racing to watch, if not into the festival side and more bike racing the Manx is the better bet later in the year, same amount of racing but more varied classes, not so much entertainment about, but with the lanes and the 450 who needs it, loads of off roaders here. Every lane has a pub at the end so they say, for when you park up though obviously.

For dates see www.iomtt.com/TT-Info.aspx Senior is the most popular to watch, but any of the 1000 cc events although the 600's only a tad slower overall, faster on the bends in places though. Side cars intersting but I used to spanner for one so a little bias. TT Zero not for everyone electric bikes technically a marvel, but as a spectator more adrenalin rush and noise from slug racing ! Manx later in year less festival more about racing and as there are classic classes 2 strokes a plenty. interestingly visitors difer too, the TT attaracts a large percentage of fireblade, R1 types the Manx lots of older bikes, English and Japanese exotica short circuit at Jurby sees LC and RG Aprillas too.

Thumper,
Are you serious about the offer of a put me up? I come over every few years, couldn't make it last year. But saw 2012 and 2007 centenary. Awesome. Just love the atmosphere. I'm looking to try and find somewhere to kip, garage, or somewhere I can get a brew, use a loo etc. I've camped twice and although ok it becomes a pain after a few days. My sister is over in her car and I was going to ask her to take my stuff, camp cot, sleeping bag etc and then try and find somewhere to hold up, someone's house or whatever for payment. I know they do home stay but don't know that much about it. I should look into it.
Any help in the accommodation would be greatly received. Any pointers to people who to contact . I'm not bother where I actually stay as it's a small island and I end up travelling out most days. We stayed at the mitre two years ago. That was good but as I say camping is the pits at times with no real facilities.
I was going to come over on the yam but I think I'll take the blade again for cruising .

At worst, tent in my garden, at best spare room, (just waiting for mate to confirm he can't make it this year) inbetween converted ambulace with heater bed cooker fridge etc, at house for toilet brews etc. If you book let me know dates and as long as one of these options will do, I will sort out which it is to be nearer the time, but will sort something out, take it your coming alone ?? Where abouts you coming from I presume midlands from your job description ?

Me and the Misses are over for the 2 weeks every year without fail. We're normally tearing about on Suzuki X7's or LC's most of the time but I also take my trusty GSXR1000 for occassional higher speed antics We're all booked and paid up for 2014 and just by coincidence we're renting a house in Laxey this year, as where we normally stay can't accomodate us for 2014 !. I'll keep an eye on this post in-case of a meet-up or BBQ

I'm trying to get my mate to come over. I'm from notts/Derbyshire area. Work at RR. I am going to find the tickets from a fella who provides them but then deal with my own accommodation. I just need my mate to commit also. He was a two stroke racer back in the day, knows the likes of James whitham and such. Knows a lot about bikes but his back is buggered and he wants to go. He's not known for commitment though ;-) in my head if I commit I'm off. To b e honest it's just a case of time off and cost.
If he comes he'll ride my rd350 and I'll take the blade. I'll stay in touch and we'll meet up if I come over. Les, my mate is currently rebuilding a Ducati 750 super sport ?? And he has a cbr400 in bits also.

Yeah will do mate. I've just seen in your status that you've got a GS1200 ?. Had a funny encounter with a local on a GS1200 over the Mountain section last year . It was fairly early in the morning, and as I went around the Gooseneck, I noticed a couple of bikes parked up on the left. Didn't take any notice of them really, just carried on at 50mph until I got to the national speed limit signs, then started to pick up the pace a bit. I then caught a glimpse of a headlight in my Mirror during the first section (I'm pretty paranoid about Mr Plod on his camera bike out there, so don't go stupid) but after a blast up the Mountain mile section it was pretty much out of sight behind. A bit further up I noticed the bike was still occasionally flashing in my mirror at a distance, so decided it was either Mr Plot chasing me, or someone pretty quick that was on it. So I decided that when I got to the Verandah I would slow down enough for whoever it was to pass. Well bugger me if it wasn't a BMW GS1200 on local plates . Having made the decision that it wasn't Mr Plod, I then decided I'd stick behind best I could and follow him the rest of the way to the Cregg. I could easily have blasted away up Hailwood Rise and probably kept in front but he was a bit quicker than me on the tighter stuff that I still don't know that well and he was using every bit of road and pushing the abilities of the bike, so decided I'd let him show me the lines . When we got to the Cregg he pulled over (assume to wait for his friend who was nowhere to be seen), we gave each other a nod and I carried on to Laxey down the back road. I'm guessing being a local and knowing the road like the back of his hand he was sitting at the Gooseneck waiting for non-locals on sports bikes to have a tear-up with Roll on this year

I'll be across there for the Sunday to Thurs of the second week, me and several mates, we are staying at Ardwhallen – Outdoor Education Centre, West Baldwin, we stayed there last year and while it was basic, and several hairy arsed blokes to a room, it did at least have warm water, kitchen etc, worst part was having to get to Douglas etc, but we all had a great time, so we are going again and staying there, very cheap as well, much cheaper than the campsites and bikes are secure and no tents in site !!
will have to organise a meet up, or a blast acrtoss to yours Thumper for some beers etc
