Always fancied one, Mike's build fired the imagination, cheapy cheap on ebay did the rest ! I'm awaiting bodywork on my black/red N2, & crank being rebuilt for the other, so I needed something to keep me out of trouble... Very loosly assembled, I love it Bit to chop off swingarm pivot Likey this view lots, RGV tank suits well, the tap's bang in the way - sure it's sortable Early ZX6 front, stems a touch short ?... Not going to get stuck in until I've got the others back together, back on the shelf it goes

Cut the sidepanel lugs off the tank, the tank will be lifted small bit more at front, trying to keeps the lines looking good. Will use standard RGV front tank mount with a bit of alteration , and rear tank mount not too far from cross mount on frame. RG fuel tap looks like it'll work, not got one yet, but from looking at pic's I recon it'll do the job

It's going to have ultra stubby kicker , need an RD knuckle to use - got the idea from RD/RZ forum Sure sits tight ! Awaiting RG bottom yoke for stem swap, and a GS500e swing arm spindle cos can't find a MK3 gamma spindle - optimistic GS one will do...

Looking good mate. I am staying with the Mk1 look on mine and keeping original wheels, swinger and forks as they are easily good enough and it keeps the weight down. Its its light weight that goes a long way to making it so nimble. Good Mk1 body parts are a challenge to get though :-). I have also gone for the 4LO lump as it is lighter , less cluttered and so brutal I recon it will push the gamma frame to its limits when the power is delivered in true Elsie fashion :-). PS. An Aprilia RS125 Rad fits a treat and is far better than a Gamma one.

Cheers for the comments/suggestions - keep 'em coming Really need to cut out subframe support rails, the lh side one's got some nasty attempt at welding - doesn't look good. I've got a tig, am only novice ish but I'll have a go. Would like another frame to cut up & re use standard metal, really like the look of "doubled up" frame rails, like on the early factory GSXR slabsides, I'll dig a pic out of one to show what I mean.

It's already registered as 350 with 1WT number, not planning on building a lump for it, will borrow one from my other bike. 500e swing spindle's arrived - bit too long, better than too short though Plan to have as minimalistic road legal, poss daytime mot ?.......

Measure of swing arm pivot spindle & hole = 30mm od bearing & 14mm dia spindle. A visit to simply bearings website has produced these RGV oringinal on left. bush for spindle to original RGV inner bearing is "oilite brass" - don't really know how it'll wear etc - will kepp my eye on it on regular basis. The original RGV bearings are 30mm deep, I've ordered 25mm (may be 25 & 20 can't be bothered to go and measure ! measured lot's tonight already... Hopefully will be an effective way of adapting sizes ?...

Unbolted this from my little lathe (Emco compact 8) Got a couple of secondhand milling machine cutting tools & vee blocks at the weekend - little lathe becomes little milling maching RGV = 205mm RG = 190mm Scribed 7.5mm line at each end of pivot, removing the tool post from lathe does away with any means of acurately adjusting tool/work position, I worked to the scribed line and only had the arm jump out the clamps once or twice Was happy chomping out about mil n half at a time Sure the real engineers out there wouldn't approve of my method, elf n safet what

This made me smile The bearings have a bored recess in swing arm, the new bearings I got are 5mm narrower the the originals, I've machined 7.5mm off the pivot width , hopefully not a major issue , I don't think the ones I knocked out were seated all the way to recess I didn't measure them earlier - didn't want to burst my bubble after my joy of the nana arm in the RG

It looks nicer on the braced side of arm, box section matches the Mk3 frame Had a GSXR750 wc rocker link, it fits frame end if turned the wrong way round ! used the 750 links as rough guide. Got a TZR250 v twin shock - another ebay cheap so buy it moment many years back - it's the closest match for length out the ones I've got to hand - anyone know the length of a Mk3 Gamma shock and lenght of RGV250 shock please ?... ZX12R way too long (may just be a touch too stiff aswell !) TZR one, closer to lenght - still bit too long I think - having rocker arm the right way round would help that perhaps, shock is much too wide at the top, and the fork is too narrow at the bottom, thnikng hat on, more lathe/milling to be done ...

It looks nicer on the braced side of arm, box section matches the Mk3 frame I quite like the banana arm with the frame. Once you have the wheels and forks in - banana side may look less out of place. Thanks for posting the pics of your lathe setup. Was wondering if something like that would work. Had a GSXR750 wc rocker link, it fits frame end if turned the wrong way round ! used the 750 links as rough guide. Got a TZR250 v twin shock - another ebay cheap so buy it moment many years back - it's the closest match for length out the ones I've got to hand - anyone know the length of a Mk3 Gamma shock and lenght of RGV250 shock please ?... Mk3 shock lenght is about 280mm (11inches) center to center of each mounting hole. Rgv250 vj22A is about 310mm (12.25 inches) center to center of each mounting hole. I've used a 2002 r6 shock on mine... it's a bit longer than the stock rg250 but fits both the top mount and rg250/ rgv250/ r6 rocker link - but all these need some modifications to work. Had to turn the shock resevoir towards the engine side to make it fit.

Gammaguy21 - Thank you muchly sir Measurements really appreciated. The TZR shock is 300mm, much too wide for top mount though. Bottom fork fits the rocker arm, rocker arm needs narrowing for frame mount. I'll be asking for rocker dimensions next if I can't fathom if I can modify top mount!!! Have you got a build thread for your bike anywhere ? Would love to see some pic's I've signed up to RGV forum recently, done lots of reading but not posted there yet, I may put a some build pic's on there ?... Fairly confident there'll be more questions soon ! Cheers Matt

Would love to see some pic's I've signed up to RGV forum recently, done lots of reading but not posted there yet, I may put a some build pic's on there ?... Hey Matt, The RGV forum is a good one, lots of knowledgeble people on there. Sadly, threads on rg250 don't get much traffic. I don't have a build thread... have the internet littered with questions and pics though. I don't work very quick, so a build thread wouldn't be updated very often. I've got a spare rg250 frame that I work out the modifications and hopefully will make it to my running yammagamma one day. Don't want to clutter up your thread with my pics, but since you asked... how it looks currently : I've a couple of hobby machines so this is how I ended up taking some off the rgv swingarm Here's the spare gamma frame that has the suspension upgrades Ren

I'll be asking for rocker dimensions next if I can't fathom if I can modify top mount!!! Fairly confident there'll be more questions soon ! Seems the stock rg250 linkage will work, but the r6 shock ends up close to the rear opening of the swingarm and not in the center. Then you'll need to make new dogbones too. I think that I'm gonna make a frame adaptor for the rgv250 linkage (less work? and I can probably get things to line up better). Something like this You could aslo make a traingle linkage like the rz to rgv swingarm conversion using the rgv shock : I don't think these dimensions will work for your setup... but it'll give you ball park figures to start from. If you need measurements on the stock rg250 linkage, let me know.

Photo's and additional info very usefull thanks Mk3 is a nice looking machine, much prefer your work in progress though The mill looks usefull, on my shopping list this year for sure. That and many more clamps/blocks etc, I'm going to give it a go using rocker I've got already - sure it won't be easy !!! Managed to press bearing out rocker, trying to devise means to clamp it for working ... Cheers Matt

Couldn't find an RG tank outlet or tap at reasonable money. Took a flyer on a tap from an RMZ450 motocrosser = £10 delivered No reserve tap, but this bike isn't for touring Bolt centres are fine, square hole & round peg though ! Adapter plate needed ?...

Going to have to be thin adapter plate though !... Tank's not gonna fit frame much tighter than this - outlet fitted in this pic. Think I better sort the back linkage before worrying about cosmetics

That's a great lathe set up. If you had to farm work like that out, it'd hardly ever get done, unless you find a real enthusiast!

Been trying to sort rear suspension linkage, bought a suzuki GK75 shock, linkage & dogbones for reasonable quids!?... Dog bone fits frame, shock much too long As told above, RG shock is 280mm long, closest I have is the TZR shock (with pretty gold reservoir) at 300mm odd. GK75 TZR to GK75 top eye Back on the shelf , my pocket few quid lighter ...

The GK75 shock was never gonna fit due to length, had found out that GS500e shock is eye/fork & 280mm long, don't want to spend £40 odd quid on a another shock, this build is meant to be about using accumulated parts, not buying even more ! Got brave with the angle grinder on the TZR shock, pressurised nitrogen, pah ! ! ! No explosions & it fits top eye 30mm width ! Around the same time I found an RG250 mk3 rear shock linkage for cheap enough, thought my problems may be solved... Getting closer, but still not gonna fit.
