Ok, some of you might have seen my posting about trying to get better mid range on my 350LC, as part of this quest, I decided to try a set of Banhsee coils from Norbo.
So I've just done a back to back comparison of the Banhsee coilds versus the standard 4L0 coils.
My bike was baselined on the dyno and the carburation was allsorted out as best we could, to summarise the bike was making 46BHP in pretty much standard trim, but had a small flat spot around 5k to 6k, even after sorting out the carburation as best we could.
Next I fitted the banshee coils and 3 things became apparant very quickly.
1. The bike starts much easier 2. Throttle response is much crisper and quicker 3. The dyno run provide that pretty much throughout the whole rev range the bike was making 1BHP more.
Now it may not sound much 1BHP, but when you ride the bike you can definately feel the difference and the mid range flat spot hs all but gone now and that is down to carburation anyway.
So to summarise, is it worth buying the banhsee coils and fitting them, well I'd have to say a big YES, not only for the extra gee gee you get but alos because the throttle response is so much better.
Hopefully this will help others if they are pondering, new Banhsee coils versus 30+yr coils, erm, no contest in my eyes now
Next, to fit some KR1S carbs to see how that affects the bike, watch this space

I hope there are plenty of these coils available as it looks like a good simple mod.

Hi, as Butchers has said Andymarsbar sold them to me as Mick rdlclazy didn't want them anymore ha ha. Anyway in comparison to the standard N2 coil the Banshee coils generate a spark about 2 mm and you can here it cracking. The old coil you can barely see it. The bike has had a full nut n bolt rebuild and is at the local motorcyclist to have the carb fine tuned and an mot. Pictures will be posted when it's ready for the road. Got some pictures of the coils fitted and will show shortly. But well worth getting some as the benefits do seem huge. Denzil

I read somewere that these could also be an upgrade for the 125lc as well (using one coil) even if they only give 0.5 hp on the 125 thats almost 5% more power.

No reason why you can't fit just one to your 125 raven. Find someone to share a pair of them

Billyboy think you missed my earlier post asking same question...appears to me that all having done this are stating positive results so it's on my list to do! If the bikes 25+ years old and 15 k+ extg coils must be past their best...

always thought the sparks on my valves were weak as piss , has anybody fitted them too a valve ? yeah denzil has put them on a valve with excellent results got to remember the old coils are 30 plus years old so the copper will now have a higher electrical resistance resulting in a weaker spark. think of it as, banshee coils = you swimming in water old coil, you swimming in mud

I've used a dyno coil on my rd400 ,the two wires that connect to the coil from the loom are different colours does it make any difference which goes on to each coil connection ,bike works fine but that could be down to luck!

If you mean one of these www.dynatekuk.com/sport_bikes_ignition_coils.htmlThen yes you were lucky, it does matter which wire goes where. If you want a good coil these are the best

depends on the model of the RD400, if its a C or D then it does matter, if its an E/F it doesn't as they are electronic ignition and fire on the pickups on the flywheel and not via the points system, which is handed !

if you get the latched spade terminals, just remove the white plug from the origanal coil and make a small loom as in the pic with a bit of orange and black wire and black tube, and it dose. ;D Comes with no wires or HT lead, but has 2 straight and 2 90deg ends, just buy copper HT lead as its loads cheaper than the ones they sell. Starts so easy it ant real.

has long slots, fits standard holes and cover fits as in pic, the minature coil is DC-9 and 40,00 volts and is alot easyer to fit to standard LC fitting than the bigger normal Dyna coils, DC11 I think they sent first. www.dynatekuk.com/accessories_dyna_coils.htmlI MAD A MISTAKE ABOVE AND GOT THE COIL NUMBERS ROUND THE WRONG WAY, MINATURE COIL IS DC11 AND THE OLDER STYLE COIL WITH ANGLED OUTPUTS ARE DC9s. SORRY

I've just picked up a pair of banshee coils from Norbo with a few more items, just need to knock up a couple of brackets and get them fitted. Mind you i'll not be trying them yet as i've not got my casings back from blasters yet and then need to rebuild the engine
