Went to the “Smokin’ to Sammy’s Two Stroke Meet” at Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum yesterday. There were 50+ visiting 2-strokes there as well as the 400+ motorcycles from various eras in the museum itself.

In the time it takes to have a baby... er, a tank I bought from Dejan has arrived in Aus. Haha Ok, there is a bit more to that story of course... But the gist is that in mid December last year Dejan boxed and sent me this tank. After a few months it had got as far as Singapore but the tracking had stalled and the tank proceeded to have a lengthly holiday in a Warehouse in Changi Airport. Perhaps it was allowed out on occasion to visit the Jewel (which is great if you havent been), but I doubt it... Then one day it was unexpectedly returned to Dejan. Apparently there was no way to get it the last 7 hours of flight time to land in Aus. Argh, soooo close, yet soooooo far. This is one of the problems of Covid that people dont expect or know much about I think around the world. Australia reduced the amount of people who could come here last year. Incoming persons were limited to basically only returning Australian citizens although it seems if youre a Hollywood star (or an annoying Big Brother contestant from the UK lol) you can come and go as you please. hmm... Anyway, limiting people who arrive to around 2000 or 3000 a week killed Airmail. Killed it dead. 3000 people was less than what landed before 7am most mornings in Sydney before Covid and thats just one point of entry to Aus... Of course not everyone was screwed, Fed Ex has its own planes and other carriers repurposed some of their passenger fleet to take up some of this demand, but still flights are limited and airmail is really quite slow now, in and out of Aus. Postal organisations also removed all their cheap options of course. Why allow people to buy something cheap when the costs have gone up and the supply/demand ratio is stacked towards 'demand'? Anyway, long story short: Both Dejan and I waited... and Waited (capital W)... Eventually he got word from his local post office that posting to Australia would be switched back on this month and within 2 weeks the tank is here! Wahoo! Considering its done enough miles to have been all the way round the world now I think we did ok, the handling only bent the side panel grommet mounts and they can bend back. Dejan's great packing was the key to that of course. Anyway, Massive thanks to Dejan for his hard work and also for the deal on the tank. I know what I'll be doing the rest of this week... now where did i put that paint stripper and DeoxC I bought last year??? haha. Ok... EDITED! A bunch of hours later and the full story is told here if you want to see where ive got to: rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/53463/slow-burn-project-style-ypvs?page=2&scrollTo=537835A spoiler: (LOL )

Clutch and back shock were doing my head in The clutch was really grabby and not smooth, So I stripped the master and slave and cleaned them up, greased them, fitted them and bled them and now its like new, Perfect, Back shock was bollixed, springy, New nitron fitted, Added 20mm to the ride height to speed it up a little, The steering is very slow on it, Made a nice difference, nice and snappy now, Happy friggin days

Dry built my spare YPVS lump to see what i would need to finish the top end, bottom end is done with new Hot Rods crank, top end is on 64mm and good for a few thousand miles, but the pistons don't match one is genuine and the other is Jap Mitaka, needs a top end gasket and some P/V seals, it's not the prettiest, but what should i put it in? Rgv perhaps? Andy. IMG_0199 by Andrew Jolly, on Flickr IMG_0197 by Andrew Jolly, on Flickr

Tried out new mirrors, master cylinder and clutch and brake levers, new clutch cable and new original seat and tweaked the set up on my YSS shocker. And not forgetting new fuel lines.
When I joined the forum someone said these bike become an obsession and they were right...they also seem to get me to spend regularly too !!
Rides really nicely now though.

Thanks Mr T. Sailed the MOT and had the old test guy reminiscing of his younger days blasting around on 2Ts. Bike has not had much use since I finished it last year but I am hoping to get a few miles done this weekend. John.

Has someone removed them or is that std? 🤔 Good question. Both of my pairs of 4L0-00 have brass balls fitted in this position. The 1980 Technical service advisory from Yamaha, recommended drilling, a new circuit in the carb, and then blocking this pathway with Araldite. FOR THE 350 model. See the Tech sheet. This would seem to indicate that this airway was not originally blocked off. anecdotally, and based on the evidence of my own eyes, i have never seen a pair of LC carbs, without the brass ball in place. Perhaps someone who knows can shed some light.

Today, I fitted the clutch cable. (New expensive OEM Yamaha from Fowlers... all but identical to the cheapo £7.50 one I had from ebay ). Having done so, the initial mechanical build for "Project Kevin" was essentially done. Off the MOT testing station we went. I'm running in so keeping the revs down to 3-4000, and not letting the engine pull, it feels very nice to ride, as a standard 250. It needs more revs to pull away than my 350, but that is to be expected, 9and the carbs are only roughly set up anyway, as I've not had a chance yet to get the engine warmed up.) Surprisingly, the standard, un-refurbished 40 year old LC Shock feels nice. Firm but compliant. I'm sure this will change as the revs, and the speed rise, and I stress the chassis more around the sunny Sussex country lanes. She passed her MOT first time, which was a surprise, but i have an advisory for an oval rear brake drum. Given the state of corrosion on the drum interior, I think I'm looking for another rear wheel to swap in , and there's just a lot of expensive carp on ebay. Anyway... Build 1 (Mechanical) is complete, so I shall ride her for the rest of the summer, running her in, and she'll come apart again over the winter for a cosmetic build for next year.

Picked up the LC bodywork from the painter today. 6 weeks from drop off. The painter informed me that it would be too difficult for him to fit decals due to the double curve on the tank so he painted the whole thing. Yeah it is not as sharp as Image works decals but I am happy with it. Time to get the finger out now

After a very prolonged running-in period, I wanted to do a quick check to see if the motor would run cleanly up to the 10,000 rpm rev limiter. So, in a suitable place, I did a gradual roll-on in first gear, rode out the power surge and it revved beautifully clean to ten grand; so I changed into second. I can't honestly say I was ready for what happens when you engage the clutch right in the fat part of the powerband in second gear. Let's just say that I saved some wear on the front tyre for a few yards............. Still grinning!

Thought i'd have a break from building the next one and took this one out for a good thrashing.. IMG_2424[4511] by Gary Woodward, on Flickr I have two of them on the road at the moment and have done more miles on both of them than i have done on the MT09 so far this year, they are so much more fun to ride When the next one is finished the red and white is coming apart for some work.

Yup LC2 muddy as fitting LC2 forks. Later muddy sits better against the wheel radius than std LC one.
