Done a little bit more. Got the fairings sorted and back on the bike. One of the lugs for the plastic covers had been broken off the fairing. I got some some electrical mini trunking glued that in place on the fairing. I drilled hole in it and fitted a clip. I think its made an acceptable repair. Got the fairing back on and I think the bike is looking good. I ve done about 250 mile on the bike so far and all seems well. Need to get out and use it a bit now! There are still a few marks here and there but all in all I thinks it made a tidy usable classic sports bike. Think I ve saved it from the scrap yard too which is a nice feeling!

Cheers Guys! Just having a look at the alternator at the minute. Sounds a bit rattley so going to replace bearings in it.

Well had a quick look at the alternator and it not that thats making a nose. Can hear a little tapping sound when I have listened to the engine with a stethoscope the noise comes from the carbs. Could it be the carbs are out a balance making make the nose? Or maybe something to do with the vacuum fuel tap?? Anyone any ideas?

Its probably the carb slides rattling up and down on tickover - does it go if you lift the revs up a bit?

Not sure if the noise disappears when you lift the revs but I will try that and see what happens! Must say I have only notice the noise when the bike is idling when im warming it up to ride. Thanks for that guys! Didnt want to start ripping the carbs to bits for no reason.

The carb slides are lifted by the diaphragms on the top of the carbs and on tickover they tend to rattle a bit as the engine is a bit "lumpy".I would say it's normal for them to make a little noise when the engine is idling - if you lift the revs then the diaphragms will lift the slides up a bit and they should stop rattling. Dosen't happen on LCs of course, because the slides are controlled by the throttle cables.

Well just picked up a nos fairing panel for the bike to replace the damaged on that I repaired and im also having the chain adjusters and steering top nut re chromed. Unfortunately for me when the bits are back Im putting the bike up for sale. Not used the bike that much and Ive just had a baby son so can't see me having any time really to use it. (keeping my lc though). Only costs me £80 to insure with Peter James insurance. Some spares and manuals will come with the bike.
