No MOT this weekend, but fixed the fuel problem.
Tried lots of things, but in the end used 27.5 slow running jets, instead of the standard 22.5.
It's now a different bike.
MOT next weekend!

Started running it in, but the weather has put me off. Not for the comfort factor, but more to do with safety. As it was due to rain all weekend, I decided to drop (sic) the forks and lower them by 25mm. I have machined up some 25mm spacers to go between the damper rod and the top-out spring. I have also (therefore) made some shorter preload spacer (-25mm). However due to the more likelyhood of bottoming out, I have also made some extra spacers to add 12mm to the preload. These are seperate to the preload spacers so I can fine tune them. Long term I think if I like the TZR front end (I was advised it was a good conversion, as twin disc is heavier, and can be too much stopping power for the weight of the bike) I will get my spare set shortened (cut and re-threaded stanchion + re-chrome) with progressive springs and emulators.

The recent good weather has meant I have started running the LC in. Around 150 miles so far. Nice to ride where cars can't get.

Jon hadn't looked at your build thread before now. Absolutely fantastic looking bike and unbelievable engineering. Great work mate.

This might be the penultimate post on this build/bike as it is almost finished (but when is it ever?). I have been running it in, and came across a particularly bad piece of road which made me think I really want to invest some money on the suspension. £650 later, and I can tell the difference. First I had a spare set of TZR 250 forks shortened professionally by 40mm by cutting the tops off, then re-threading them. I then put in Hagon progressive springs, and a set of YSS PD valves. I then sorted the back end out. What a piece of kit this is, it feels quality from the moment you take it out the box.

The old bush looks very tired next to the new one. I'm pleased it's now pressed in and the clutch will not wobble about under the engine side case. I've been designing a fork brace/mudguard bracket as I didn't want a TZR 250 mudguard (too square), and so opted for a TZR 125 mudguard. I designed it as a 20mm plate with 13mm spacers to hold it off the tyre, but my local machinist siad why not make it from solid billet? After designing it in CAD, I can't wait to see it in the bare aliuminium. On a seperate noted I had my carbs ultrasonically cleaned over the weekend. They came back extremely clean, but a sort of elephant grey colour. I might try polishing with Autosol, to give a slightly more metal look? Anyone had the same? Hi Jon, I'm interested on your fork brace. Can I know can it be fitted to TZR250 1Kt fork and front mudguard? If can I would like to have you made 1 pcs for me.

Arahim66,
The good news is the brace will fit anything you like. The bad news is that's because it was bespokely machined at my local machine shop to my design.
Think it cost about £150 from memory.

It's an excuse to post some more photos on this thread after it was finished (are they ever?). Photof**it ruined this and my other build threads, so I've rebuilt them using Flickr. Here's a shot I found interesting whilst running in: And a couple more out and about pics since its finish: And a change of seat:

Thanks guys. It's my first RD hybrid, and I have a soft spot for it. When it was a 250 it was a PITA, as you had to drive like a 125 or thrash it. As a 350 it is much more suitable for the road. Now it has no flat spot (once warmed up) and you can drive sensibly (or not if the mood takes you ). I know I'm building other RD's and can't see keeping them all, but for the moment I can't see getting rid of this one either until they are all done, and I can decide if I want to thin out my collection or not. matt7, I really like the practability of a centre stand. Not getting knocked over easily, chain lubing etc. I know some modern bikes don't have them, but a LC has the capability of one, so why not? I've never really liked the idea of the strain of a sidestand on an LC (or some other bikes for that matter). I'm with you, totally agree with all those points above. Back in the day when I owned a GSXR or FZR for example, I didn't have any choice on having a centre stand period or minded too much, now I'm older and wiser, sure wouldn't want a bike without one now, they just make life so much easier.

I know this is an old post but I am a new member that just bought an 82lc; and this bike is beautiful. I am looking through all the lc posts for inspiration and I wanted to keep the stock look including the wheels but this bike just does it for me on so many levels (especially the color scheme)! Congratulations on a masterpiece Jon!

Congratulations on a masterpiece Jon! Thanks Charles. If your interested I never intended to replicate the candy blue scheme exactly. If you notice the 3 stripes are all shades of silver/grey, not a white one on the OEM scheme. Never tried to match the blue either as I believe OEM is lighter. If your interested it’s Rover Trophy Blue. A blue I really like so I had loads of it. Jon

Sad day today 😢.
Sold the LC today. It’s gone to a good home though.
You may see it crop up on this forum at some time as the new owner puts his stamp on it.
