wooooooo , stop!!!!!!!!!!,should have told you , i am currently in conversation with the supplier that sold me the hb 2k in a can suff, due to the fact it is still not hard in places after 6 MONTHS. i am thinking i applied too heavy coats with not enough drying time in between as the sidepanels etc are ok but where i layed more on, on the tank there is problem areas ,shame cos it comes out of the can like nothing else i have used and looks silky smooth. I hope i have caught you in time and i have only just dug my tank out of the garage with a million pinholes in the clear where i wrapped it in a towel, it has flatted out but still not hard, maybe this fresh layer needs to harden and i have had it in front of a heater and it has made no difference. maybe with light coats and drying time it would be ok and you definitely need moderate heat to cure it, this stuff is made in greece, where obviuosly has warmer climes than us . i hope you get sorted

Thanks again for all the kind comments.
As many will know, young kids and an old RD want all your time and all your money, so my poor old bike gets whats left over.
Huge fun though, I'm really enjoying doing this one up.

Little bit of an update. I'm off the stand and rolling now. I finally made a decision on the wheels and went for white. And a pair of Avons The discs had patina in buckets Satin black centres and a quick whizz over with the flap wheel. The bolts won't be staying in, I'll be fitting ones with a standard head. The screen was placed on the bikini, marked with a felt tip, masked up and sprayed on the inside to get the black edge. And a pic of the lacquerd bikini.I still need to flat and polish all the bits. Brakes next, then the engine.Need to get a wriggle on now, it's sunny outside yer know.

Cheers Billy, It's good old halfords Lacquer on the plastics ;D. I'll be getting a tin of that MIPA 2k for the tank. It's the last thing to coat now I've had a nightmare with unknown black particles hitting the wet surface from nowhere.Turns out it was microscopic fluff from the damn tumble dryer.

Footrests. I've put some aftermarket ones on for a bit of a change, and kept my originals safe. This was before I had made a bracket but then thought, hang on, I can use my originals without damaging them seeing as the coating was in really good nick I did'nt want to use normal clevis pins, and had a right job on finding pins that peen over, so I popped in to Yambits with my old ones. Turned out that the RD 400 footrest pins Dave sells are exacly the same as LC2 pins, so a pair were bought. The right hand footpeg needed to tuck away to clear the kickstart, so I drilled the new peg, threaded it and put an M6 bolt in. After a bit of fettling I had it at the right length, realised I didnt need the big return spring on the right peg, so I removed it, knocked it all together, put loctite on that M6 and fit it to the hangers, works a treat. The rear pegs are cheap and cheerful, but do the job. Brakes are tidied up and "just" need nipping up and bleeding. If I put the word "just" in then I'm hoping the god of brakes will smile and give me an easy lever.

Flatting and polishing my paint. Out of all the panels I laquered, the side panels came out of the can the roughest, so I thought I'd use these to show how I obtain a nice finish from bad painting. I was going to use a mechanical polisher but after a long hard think I decided it may be a bit much for small panels like these, so good old elbow grease is the way. One really important thing is to let the laquer harden for two or three weeks. These panels were in the airing cupboard for about that. This was the finish from the can. I used to use 1500 grit, but found that 1200 has the same effect with less effort.I use loads of washing up liquid and water, constantly wetting the paper and moving very lightly in one direction staying away from the edges. Every so often I dry it off to see where I am. This next shot shows that I'm nearly there but a little bit more is needed to ged rid of the dimples, they will show later if not fully flat. This is about right The crucial thing at this stage is knowing when to stop, it's so easy to go through the colour if I dont keep drying it off and checking where I am.The edges need very little flatting, Then its down to my two greatest allies, off the shelf and easy to find The next step is T cut, and a half decent shine. This is after T cut. Then my mate MER. About five coats I'm just waiting for my 2k to arrive now for the tank. I had a moment then.I stood back and thought, crikey all I have left is the engine. Might be a another month yet though. Time is scarce at the mo.

Getting real close now.I might actually realise my May deadline. I re-covered the seat, never done that before. What a bellache of a job. The tank was lacquered last night, just giving that a few days before flat and shine. Not really done much with the engine, top end off, lick of paint, new PV seals, back together and in the bike. Clutch and new front sprocket to fit tomorrow Couple of jobs that were done last year but engine related, and still look (almost) as good Brakes bled up in ten minutes, I nearly did a squeaky fart of exitement when that happened. I intended to get it fired up tomorrow but I need a few odds and sods, pipes, clips and things. Should be done in a couple of weeks.

Can I ask how much this was, or is it a bit cheeky/? ;D Not at all bud, they were just under 40 quid.I did collect them though.Flick Tony an email, see what they'll cost to be posted. bloody hell fingers you have got a lot of talent, you should do it for a living, Thanks Ken, that's very kind of you.The thought had crossed my mind to knock out a few paint jobs as a sideline.I'd need some pro training, booth, proper gear and heaps of practice before I even considered touching anyones pride and joy though.
