Hi, Was never 100% happy with the tuned engine in my Lc2/Vj22 hybrid, ran great but was a little noisy on the top end. Turns out it was on 1.5 oversize and although recent bore and pistons the clearances were a little on the large side so decided to do a complete new motor. Idea was to build another with new crank and tuned top end but got a bit carried away. Few emails to Tss later and a bruised paypal account and I'd ordered a +4mm balanced long rod crank with the uprated outer mains, a set of upgraded gearbox bearings and a set of 1UA pv's. Managed to pick up a low mileage RZ250 motor that looked like it had ran out of oil, original bores but scored and crank had a lot of heat marking and a melted LH seal. No worries as was only after the mint gearbox and unmarked clutch basket, managed to sell the rest for more than I paid so happy days. Got a second set of cases nicely matched to barrells Got in touch with Glyn at GPL racing (slinger) regarding the set up and he agreed to supply some Wiseco 795 65mm pistons to take up the extra 5mm rod legnth and machine me a head to take up the extra stroke and oring it. Got some PWK 28's for it with TZR reed blocks and Kenny is doing me a set of stainless matched stroker pipes. Just about to send the barrells to Mick Abbey to flow them and alter the port heights and floors as per Glyn's spec. Got a good set of 1UA 0.25 barrells but feel guilty boring these out to 1mm so waiting for rave to come back as he may have some more suitable others. More pics as I go, bring on next spring. Steve

What pipes are you gonna run with? Kenny ( TSA ) has the measurements for the pipes to match this kind of motor so will be making them. Did have a set of Kenny's "Mick Abbey" design pipes that I was going to use which would have worked but the "stroker" pipes add 7 BHP accross 5k - 10K rpm and peak at 9900 rpm so don't have to rev the nuts off it. Goona be good If i had the dosh then i would love to go this route too I did see Slingers on the dyno and it was about 74bhp It's not too bad actually, was going to do it modular, crank and top end first and use the standard carbs and kenny's abbey pipes but then realized it wouldn't be ready for winter so decided to go the full hog. Could probably have done without the upgraded gearbox bearings ( I've even changed the shift drum bearing ) but wanted to start afresh with everything. A lot of money seems to be going on all the little things like gaskets and seals. £40 for gen yam seals and £44 for the gen gaskets and thats without one for the head. Managed to get a YPVS large capacity rad at a really good price which softened the blow a bit but now I'll need a high flow impellar from norbo now. Did I say it was not too bad Steve

Steve, I know what you mean on the small stuff, just filling it with some decent oil and water soaks up a wodge of cash as well, hence you may as well do things properly inside like you did with the bearings, I use a full set of TSS bearings in all my engines for that reason.
Tell us more about this rad?!

Tell us more about this rad?! It's funny about the bearings, they are cheaper than Gen Yam so no brainer. As for the rad it was from a bloke on the RD/RZ forum that had bought it for his race bike, used it once and decided to go back to the other large rad he had so got it delivered for under £100. Think it was from Norbo but ultimately same as the TSS ones. www.twostrokeshop.com/RZ350_high_capacity_radiator.htmSteve

LOL, yeah thats true... ae you doing the bushes as well, I think Norbo listed them for cheap recently on the site?
Good value rad, well done! I was lucky enough to score one from a guy on ebay who built some in his breaks and by working late, until his boss saw that instead of one, he'd done 10 or something, all using the works materials... i think he was threatened with the sack... oops.

Saw those rads, bargain. Not sure about the bushes, transmission was very low miles. I'll have a look at them when building it back up, at least you don't have to split the cases for them. Steve

Bit of an update, barrels now with Mick Abbey for rebore and porting. Uprated gearbox bearings fitted, doddle as did not realise the big ones were not pressed on, simply slide on, was surprised sprocket shaft bearing is the same as the crank mains. Threebond from ebay finally turned up so new seals fitted and crank in and cases bolted together and even selects all the gears so happy days Hopefully get the clutch basket cleaned and fitted tomorrow. Now can't find the plastic spigot for the crankcase breather, know I had one but can I find it now Steve

Probably in a really safe place.....that you canny remember now LOL you do that as well do you Couldn't have been that safe, found it beside the splined peg for locating the kickstart spring, thank f*ck. Clutch all assembled now, can't do much else till top end arrives back. Had a bit of a blond moment when I stripped the clutch case of my other motor ( clear window ) and took the oil pump off to replace the seals and clean it out and was cursing as thought it was a 250 pump. Eventually calmed down when I stripped the 250 case I had and discovered it had the 7 splines meaning the one with 5 splines was really a 350 one Clingfilmed the other bottom end for a rainy day and stuck it on a shelf. Got a little time over the last few days so been busy Pump stripped and rebuilt as per nik's thread Clutch built up using the good bits out of the other motor and the unmarked 250 basket with a set of norbo's clutch washers to finish it off. New clutch arm fitted along with tacho blank Clutch case ready with new water pump bearing, seal and a high flow impellar. Oil pump seal changed of course. All ready for the top end which should be ready next week Steve

Got another couple of things done, carbs this time. Was going well till I knocked over a tin with the jets and stuff in it and managed to lose both needle circlips on the floor so f*cked now, will have to find somewhere to supply them. Got the pilots fitted along with the idle screw to replace the extended one on for the Kr1 and fitted the angled tops and the pull chokes Cut and drilled out the vac point and tapped it M5 along with doing the other carb to match. Found some nice fittings on the scottoiler site for the oil spigots, they do them in M5 or M6. Steve

Great info on the scotoiler stuff, thats gold! Cheers. what size o ring did you use on your clutch window? Got the case with the window already done, it uses a rubber gasket exactly like the shape of the case with the mount hole lobes included so it seals the screw holes. Steve

Spoke to Mick and he should finish my barrels today so will get some progress soon. Got a very nice delivery from kenny today, pipe porn Put them against the bike and seem to fit perfectly even though he never saw the bike to get them to clear the rear end, top man. Been looking at the airbox as I'm using 10mm reed spacers, not too bad actually as the pwk's are 5mm smaller than the vm26's so going to move the airbox back to ease fitting the rubbers. I can feel some of rave's plastic welding coming on. Steve

Got another couple of hours in the garage.
Slotted out the front cups on the airbox and filed the mount and washer/bush under the battery so that if you take out the oil tank the airbox can be slid back to allow fitting of the carb to airbox rubbers.
Mounted the modded F2 pv controller and the zeel cdi and had a look at the wiring. Had the zeel on my N2 so fitted with N2 connectors but got an Lc2 stator so need to order some connectors to adapt the wiring. Was originally going to use an F2 stator but not many for sale and could do without spending the money when not really needed, cheaper to buy some connectors.

Another nice parcel on the doorstep when I got home. Barrels back, rebored and ported as per Glyn's port map and and about 6 hours of Mick Abbey's time. A really good price for the work that goes in to them. Need to get them cleaned and painted now, can't decide whether to go gloss black or silver. Decisions, decisions. Also got to helicoil one of the exhaust threads then it can go together. Steve
