Hi, Loom is on now and have got most of the electrics working. Just have a few issues In the headlight with the F2 loom and Lc clocks but I'll get there through a process of elimination Looks fairly tidy under the tank; I had a new aeroquip hose made up and also added a pressure operated switch for the rear brake, so that's ready to be bled; I also got Talon to make a 39 tooth sprocket for the Kr1 wheel, and I bolted it on today; Dusty

Hi, Haven't decided on a colour scheme yet. I want to keep the white wheels though. I had thought about a standard f2 black/red scheme, and I had considered an orange Ford ST type colour, but I'm moving away from that idea now. I found a great sprayer locally who is well into his Lc's and has an aladins cave of Lc's. One of his specials was in a Crossbow calendar back in the day, so I may take it all to him and see if he has any ideas. Dusty

Enjoying the thread dusty. The bit about the clocks looks of interest to me. Going to start my own project, but don't think it will be any where near as extensive, nor as perfect as yours. Keep up the good work.

Hi, I was going great guns on this project last year as I had a bit of cash from the Ducati sale that enabled me to buy some parts. I then went and bought Ugly Betty, and work on the Yamasaki stalled a bit. I had bought a longer chain than standard ages ago, and with the sun out, I made some room in the garage and fitted it; I also finished the engine case on the clutch side. I wanted to add some colour to the Ypvs logo; I need to spray the pipes with heat proof satin paint. When I take them off, I will offer them up to the Tzr to see how far out they would be fitting wise. Biggest expense left is a paintjob. The tank still wears the Subaru blue it came in. I do toy with the idea of rubbing it down and giving it a white coat as a temporary measure, but we'll see Dusty

Great thread/build Dusty as usual.
Engine build was really informative.
I will be using it as a reference for the engine rebuild I'm just about to undertake.

Hi, Pleased you found it useful. I have all the part numbers for engine parts if you ever need them. Most were in stock at Granby's, Fowlers and Norbo, making life a whole lot easier. Dusty

Hi I ve decided to rub down the tank and give it a basic white paint job just so i can get it together for this year. It will need a paintjob anyway so might as well have a go. Gonna be some time before i can afford a pro job, especially as the teezer is costing me ! Dusty

Hi, Wheeled the Yamasaki out today to make a list of jobs that I need to do to get it finished; Jobs to do include; Add gearbox oil Add water to the cooling system Get a number plate made up Finish the wiring in the headlight bowl Bleed front and rear brakes Get grab rail powdercoated Spray the pipes with heatproof paint, plus space out the left pipe a bit as the chain rubs very slightly on the inside edge Get the tank and rear centre panel resprayed. I bought the side panels ages ago and they are in pretty good condition, so I hope to leave them as they are and get the tank painted to match. I have toyed with the idea of doing it myself with rattle cans, but if I can get a decent price for the tank, I may bite the bullet and get it done properly ! The Tzr took my spare cash and time so the Yamasaki has sulked in the garage, but hopefully I will move forward with it a bit more now. Dusty

Hi, Couple of small jobs done this week. Got a numberplate made up and fitted, so I can cross that off the list. I had to make a bracket for the rear centre panel as the lugs were broken. I didn't want to have to drill the panels but I didn't have a choice really, and I'm not too bothered by how it looks. I also sprayed the panel in Ford Radiant red, which isn't a perfect match for my panels as I think they must have faded a fair amount over the years, but again, I am not too worried. Just want to move this on a bit now; I also adjusted the mounting bracket on the left side pipe, and the chain now clears the pipe easily, plus the pipes look more evenly spaced when you look at them from the back. Gonna order some Pro Cool and some gearbox oil this weekend and try and get some spray paint for the pipes as the weather is looking good for next week Dusty

Hi, Finally took the plunge and rubbed down the tank. It's only taken 5 hours so far Did it all by hand as I didn't have any paint stripper, but did have lots of flexi sanding pads. Good news is there are no holes in the tank and it seems very solid. Little bit left to do but the worst is done. Also had some gear oil and pro cool delivered today, so it's moving on slowly. Dusty

Hi, I've been meaning to upload some more of the engine rebuild pics, namely the clutch rebuild. Like many baskets of their age, my example had some wear; I felt filing them down would lose a fair bit of ally off the tabs, so I bought a Mitaka basket off Norbo, and some new Wiseco rubbers from NK Racing. I set about drilling the rivets out of the old basket; I used my pillar drill for ease, and started with a small bit, and then went up in size. Once all the rivets had been beheaded !, the circular steel plate can lift off to reveal; Now you can see the rubbers, which compress over time and allow the excessive movement you often find in old clutches. The ring gear can now lift off; That is a gasket of sorts with the old rubbers. Remove those and this is left; And the old rivets ; Fitting the new basket and rubbers is a reversal of the strip down with the exception being the Mitaka basket uses screws rather than rivets. I applied a strong thread lock to these when I fitted them and it's job done !

Hi I have spent some time rubbing down the tank and giving it a few coats of white primer. Trying to match the white and red paint of the side panels to paint I can get from Halfrauds is hard though, and the red on the small tail panel is not quite right. Matching the tank with rattle cans was going to be testing to say the least ! I was looking on ebay and saw Tony at Gibsons had an F2 body set for sale, so I had a bid and won it. Drove round the M25 yesterday to pick it up; There was two reasons for getting this. First being I like the red/white scheme and it would be a massive jump forward for the bike to be able to just bolt it on. Second reason is I have gained a tank ! The Yamasaki tank will now go on the F2 frame project as I was missing a tank for that build. I will rattle can spray the bodywork for the frame project bike so will have no colour match issues. The tank on the set I just bought looks good inside with no signs of leaks or rust, just lots of shiny metal The tank cap was a bit rank and missing the rubber shroud that cushions it, but I had a spare F2 cap which had been partially polished, so have fitted that. It was all a bit grubby to start with but some time with some polish has brought it up really well, with only a couple of minor marks. There is a split in a side panel that I need to glue, but otherwise, I just plan to polish and fit it. I'll do some pics of it fitted later. Dusty

Hi Andrew, There are some cracks in the panels that will need sorting before I fit them, but hopefully nothing beyond repair. A blast to Box Hill would be good when she's done !

Hi all, Offered the bodywork up today; One step forward two back ! Now the tank is good and the panels both have splits - one of which is particularly bad on the left panel So the original panels are good but the wrong shade and the speedblocks don't match the tank. Going to take it all to the spray guy tomorrow to get his opinion. Not the bolt on and go option I was led to believe ! Dusty

Update time ! After far too long sat in the garage doing nothing, I wheeled the Yamasaki out into the sunshine today. A generous squirt of premix down the petrol pipe and she fired up 3rd kick !! I have never attempted to start her since the total engine rebuild I did last year, and to say I'm really happy is an understatement ! She sounds really sweet - bloomin should do really considering the work that went into the engine, and it's the first time the TSA's have seen action too, and they sound lovely. I was just gently warming her up to tick over, but all appears fine - no leaks or unwanted noises. The tacho reads ok - I retro fitted a 31k cable drive mechanism when I did the engine, powervalves rotate correctly and she ticked over off choke too. Down side is that I wanted to test the engine and electrics before I remove them for the Tzr/Ypvs project bike. My impetus is with that now, and by using the engine, rad, pipes and electrics from the Yamasaki, I will leap forward with that. I just don't have the funds to do another engine and pipes, so I will sacrifice this one. What's left over will go in the for sale section to fund the last few bits I will need, and then hopefully I can have a valve on the road in 2015 ! Cheers Dusty
