Hi, I'm trying to take the block conectors off the end of the stator wires. I've been told they are held in by some sort of spring clip but I can't release them. I've tried searching but can't find a thread on it. It might have something to do with my failing eyesight

I used a small electrical screwdriver, push it in the front of the block to the side of the connector and lightly pull the wire and it should pull out, hope that makes sense. Once you have done one it's easy. Jess

You really need a proper tool like OEB's shown because nothing else will go down the side of the stator blocks easily enough to press the tang in, all there is on the pin or socket is a small tang of metal that sticks out a bit like a barb, you can push pin into the housing OK but then the tang sticks out to stop the pin from retracting. The correct tool is a snug fit over the pin that forces the tang inwards so that the wire / pin can be removed from the housing, so for a pin and socket / male / female connection there are 2 different size tools needed. Even then they can be bloody awkward to get out.

I did mine with a ground down allen key, (about1mm) the hardest part is finding where the tangs are, as you can't see them, or at least I couldn't. I think they are horizontal across the plug. It is very time consuming, but do it indoors with a cuppa, unless the bikes connected to the stator that is

Right, Auto Electicians wanted £40 for a tool and took my X7 for an MOT today and the garage didn't have anything either so it looks like I'm going to have to buy the right tool as OEB says!

Been thinking about this & I may have a cheap solution. I had a piece of 4mm O/D thin wall brass tube that I bought from a local modelling shop which slides inside the block connector & outside the female bullet connector. With a small chamfer to the outside of the leading edge of the pipe I managed to slide it over the connector just far enough to depress the tangs & pull the connector out of the block. Cant guarantee it will work on all but was successful on mine. The tube is available from EBAY HTH OEB

Thanks OEB, Just bought a set. Cheaper than damaging it all and having to sort it out. I'll just have to buy another project to justify the spend ;D

Even with the correct tool (i have the Lisle 3 tool set which is great) Ive found you need to 'resharpen' the end for the round connectors in say the stator plug. This is cos when you push on the tool it flares the end of youre ham fisted and then will not be small enough to close the tab enough to come out. if this happens just file the last mm or so off the end and have another go, usually fixes the problem.

He struggles with holding them and pushing them with enough force etc. Ive not used em myself tho so cant comment. He was eying up my star shaped ones tho.
