im in the process of running in my big bore 125lc,engine sounds and runs perfect but the oil level sight glass has some coffee coloured condesation on the inside of the glass? is this defenetly head gasget failier? it doesnt seem to be losing oil or water and the oil only has a very thin layer of mixed oil ad water on the top? it doesnt have a head gasget as such just a oring a nd a thin smear of sealer as its 175cc. apart from this its a good bike and this fault is driving me mad.

a) possible leak in the head (as no head gasket),not outside but into the bore?, b) crank case seal gone mixing coolant and oil? c) possible that the water pump seal/gasket gone?, d) worst case scenario cracked barrel/head leaking coolant in under pressure?. check for all.

ive had a few coolant leaks outside the barrel that are now sorted so im guessing its the head to barrel joint failing,im hoping its none of the others as it run ok before i removed the head and barrel from the engine. im not having much luck with the o-ring that seals the head and barrel and the only 175cc head gasget i can find is nk racing said then can make me a 1 off copper one for £100 as they dont have a template or much demand for them. i will give it one more go with a fresh o-ring in the week and hope for the best.
i didnt realise crank case seals can cause the above, ive never rebuilt a bottom end before.
i hate niggly fault finding problems like this, almost as bad as tatty wireing looms!

a dt175 gasget would'nt fit as they have a big square air cooled head, most recent motocross bikes run o-rings and never have a problem,im thinking its more likley the water pump seal,i will strip and inspect it at the weekend, its just easier if i could pin point exactly where the problem is

i know exactly what you mean about making a gasget, ive done it many times, mainly on old field bikes and air cooled crossers when was a youth ,if we had no gasget card to hand i even remember using old cerial boxes, the card backs worked best from note pads with a smear of hermatite. on a serious note i think it may be water pump related so im going to fit new seals before removing the head for the umpeen time, the whole o:ring idea cant be that bad as all motorcross bikes from 1990 i can think of use o rings and no gasgets. fingers crossed its a weeping water pump seal thats my problem
