no problems lads cheers.everything was fine the last 4 years now this happens strangly the same day i put the motor in. Earth wise nothing has been painted or powder coated. Fusebox wise its been in it since i bought the bike and it looks as good as new.. i will have to check again but i did see one block connector coming of the engine that didnt look great, a small squarish block with white wires going into it looked a tad iffy but i assume it comes from the genny? i will check later but its the same with the engine running or not. yes, that's the wires from the alternator, not uncommon for this connector to be dodgy, corrosion causing a higher resistance before it heats up and melts the connector but this won't be the issue here.. I had something similar the other day, i needed a new flasher unit so fitted one to the connector beside the battery and turned the ignition key, the oil and neutral lights flashed 3 times before the fuse that tony mentioned, 2nd from the left popped, horn and lights still worked tho.. scratched head, looked at the wiring diagram and ordered some new fuses, haven't done any more tho yet.. marti

If there is the faint whiff of white spirit in the air around springtime, it usually means someone (me..) has pulled their bike out of the shed and tried to fire it up.. if thats the case drain the carbs and fill with fresh, but, will it fire if you give it a skoosh of brake cleaner in the carbs?

I couldn't believe how hard that was..

I had thought that it was off a yz250 but it is different from the one i have, the chain adjuster area looks less crude and the brace between the pivot tube and the rear shock mount area is rectangular unlike mine.. maybe one of the racing chaps such as Pedrotzr could help..?

Statistics show that 86% of all LC's have a bit of wire coathanger wound around the header behind the flange to take up any free play..

I tried to get a broken piece out using a magnet on a stick but it was too bashed about to get through the round hole for the baffle so out came the angle grinder with a 1mm cutting blade.. chopped a hole into the pipe on the back (between the welds) so it wouldn't be noticed, fished out the bit and held the part i had cut out with a couple of welding magnets so i could give it a weld and grind.. a quick skoosh of paint later and no visible signs to give the game away..

One of my work mates bought a Harley when he retired and liked it so much he bought another... he did have to give up his sports bikes some years ago due to arthritis and probably other health issues to be fair to him..
So a couple of years ago, i was working in England and drove past the Manchester chapter house as they were all arriving and everyone was on a shiny bike with fairings and panniers, clean clothes etc. just didn't look like the hells angels of old.. I didn't stop to find out more.

Not as many now as there were, a lot are over here now. I have 3 contacts in Germany and 2 in Holland who keep their eyes out for bikes I'm looking for. I've brought more early Honda CB750's and Suzuki GSXR slabbies & GS's than anything, I can buy these and move them on very quickly without having to do more than get a V5 for them. Sent a PM. Alex thought you might.. lol marti

I do remember an advert stating if you want to go into the outback, choose a Landrover. If you want to come back, choose a Toyota. Smart. The outback is full of Landcruisers... the yuppy parts of the cities are full of LandRovers (and Rangies)... Go figure We still get the 70 and 80 series Landcruisers here, they are the 'last of the V8s...'... I picked up a hitch hiker from New Zealand who was exploring Scotland and as part of our conversation he told me that on his station back home on the South Island he had a 5 litre diesel Nissan Patrol which he informed me had pulled a broken down road train with about three trailers (unladen..) about 5 miles back to the ranch... no way of knowing the truth but sounded impressive.. marti

My mates 2019 Range Rover v8 diesel is on its 3rd engine in 30’000 miles fmdsh. erk.. the mechanic at the landy dealers said i was a bit hard on the vehicle when my disco was in for repair but each time i broke down, it was cruising along A class roads at 50/60... not forging a trail through the Congo... Some misguided person once said to me.. " I'd like to buy an old Landy and drive round the world..." I replied "send me a postcard when you get to Dover.." marti

Its great when you work this stuff out and it gives you confidence in yourself to do more of it. I honestly am never scared of wiring, but I know many people are. Once you know how to read a diagram it becomes so much simpler it becomes fun. when i was 17, i had a CB100 honda which developed an indicator fault and i didn't know what was wrong so i went to see my uncle who was a sparky although he knew nothing about motorbikes. We got the issue fixed as it was a bad earth and i thought that it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be so laid my hands on a multimeter, ( thanks Mikee..) and soon was able to check continuity and resistance readings from the meter against diagrams in the manual. I think many people look at a bunch of coloured wires and there is something inside their head which triggers a response such as i don't know where these go or what does this do.. ? and that's fair enough but separate those wires and you find that there is less to confuse, i.e. one wire goes to the indicator for example and one goes to the earth, so the issue lies in that circuit somewhere between the battery (power source), wires, load (bulb) and the earth (battery). Back to the circuit diagram, find the relevant circuit and draw it out so you can test continuity between each point i.e. battery to switch, switch to load and load to earth, each part of the circuit can be ticked off when the meter pings.. the first time, it's hard.. the second time it's easier and eventually you buy bikes with electrical faults just to find out why no one else can fix them... marti

I think front of the tank sits on top of the front round guide rubbers rather than cupping either side of them, so front is too high and twisted. Probably also wht tank to panel gap is too big. Might just need repositioning. it's a bit tricky to see but there is a large gap between the tank and the frame at the headstock, it's not located on the rubbers.. marti

Ended up getting it clear by grinding down an old Allen key that I could fit through the 350 hole. Then carefully tapped through with a hammer. It was seriously blocked. No way a strong wire would have cleared it. glad you got that sorted.. it's the simple things that sometimes throw you off track and you know that you are right but there's a doubt.. which is why there are no silly questions.. I tried mine with the usual bit of copper wire but it wasn't strong enough to go through the blockage. marti

Freelander, I did a lot of offroading, just forest tracks etc, for work and it needed everything underneath replaced. The garage fitted a new rear diff casing seal instead of rebuilding the diff properly.. exploded 25 miles later.. back on a truck.. Defender, transfer box broke while driving through a town at about 20 mph... back on a truck.. Discovery 2, one whole engine, one short engine, one replacement cylinder head, one gearbox two turbo's and probably more... back on a truck..
none of the above came out of my pocket, i'm glad to say..
Opel Manta, the injectors used to clog up so i had to whip them out and clean at roadside as i also had to with a Mazda 626 which blocked it's carb with silt from the tank on a regular basis...
Mk2 Transit, only motor i have had that required ear defenders cos it was so rattly..the good thing was that it was petrol so every time the engine destroyed itsself, i just bought another cortina and swapped the engine...
