So after a few weeks of fannying about I've decided on a T5, ideally with a tailgate and reasonable mileage. Looks like a minefield out there tho with dodgy vans everywhere, have a feeling it'll be a long job finding one.......and it'll blow the budget too!

I bought my 1st 250LC when I was 16, it sat in my parents garage til I reached 17 then off I went L plate n all. My LC takes me back to those days, like a two stroking time travel machine, the smell of the bike when warmed up not just the two stroke transports me back intantly to that garage, the freedom the bike brought, not to mention it was and is so bloody special. Oh heady daze indeed!

Cheers Andy, really nice comments. Your spot on with your thoughts. Costs- I'm very lucky to have good contacts and mates which kept costs down. All my blasting, welding, degreasing, engineering and seat covering were free. Paintwork will be the cost of the paint + a drink All my vapour blasting was £40, (cases, carbs, fuel tap). Still quickly adds up though but I do get a decent discount off Yamaha parts (was in the trade years ago). Like you, to hell with the cost. Worth the big smile on my face when I walk in my garage. Really don't want to add it all up. My OCD for new parts kept kicking in!
Patience for the rare parts, methodical lists and if a part won't assemble/ disassemble, take your time and come back to task after a break.
What bike have you got? Post up some pictures, Oh and I paid a bit to much for my LC. I'm in the, "it looked a lot better in the photo's" club. Must have a few members
Good luck with your bike
All the best Mark Thanks Mark, here's a pic which I posted a few days ago. Need to get some better higher res pics really

Congratulations Mark on such a fantastic project, attention to detail and patience I guess are two of the most important qualities when building such a special bike? I wondered if when building something like this you keep a tab on the cost's? My bike was fairly expensive to buy in the first place but I still find myself wanting to make it better regardless of the aditional cost........to hell with the final price in my opinion. Ignorance is bliss is the message here I think, do you agree?

It's the best stuff I've ever used. You can always throw a sheet over it, and as you say, clean it of in spring Agreed Steve, expensive but the best by far

Transit looks nice but for the price maybe a VW Transporter would be a better bet? Never drove a T5 but they have a great rep but again not cheap, can you get two sportsbikes in the back of a SWB OK? Guessing all SWB are roughly the same size? Cheers for the info lads.

Yeah Dusty tough choice between a van and box trailer really tho obviously a trailer would be way cheaper, like the idea of sticking bikes/caneo/puchbikes into a van and buggerring off somewhere nice. Spend a lot of time in the Lakes so a van makes sense in that regard.......choices eh!!! Hey I'm trying to control my bike buying habbit by the way I guess like most on here?

Hi All, Contemplating getting a van for transporting the bikes around, for trackdays n stuff, and just wondered if anyone has any recommendations van wise? 10k budget'ish Guessing a reasonably modern van would be OK as day to day transport? Cheers Lads.

That's a good looking Duke, but can't imagine it's a comfy bike to ride any distance Dusty True Dusty it's not, the old wrists hate it in traffic. As for the LC ahhhhh it's like a comfy old armchair
