What was the reason behind the lens replacement in the first place?

Yes, its the illusion of ruts in the surface when actually you can't even feel anything when you run a finger over it.

Much depends on what you want to achieve really regarding the brakes, many complain that the original ones are poor, others find them okay with braided lines, it’s up to you and your budget ultimately.
Engine - if it’s seized then the sensible / only way is to strip it - you know that if you try starting it then you’ll be emptying the piggy bank more than necessary.
Suspension wise you can get some of the parts readily some not, I’m fairly certain that I have a near perfect H section and dog legs complete.
I think that you need to sit down and work out what you want from the bike, then you’ll be able to make a list of what you need - with some idea of the costs, then decide how best to proceed / start.
I have a bare frame in the garage so should be able to get the measurements of the lower lock stop unless Jessy gets there first. Is it just the lower one or are both missing?

The earlier brakes were a single piston version, the late ones - that you have fitted now are twin piston, and as you have seen the caliper mounts are different spacings.

Tim, can we have some pics of it before its sold? im sure you'll do some for the ad? I’m going to get some new ones done. I’ll post asap Jon. I do want to try to use it as I reckon this’ll be the last proper manual car I have. I’m currently strapped up on the knee, got a proper Velcro and articulated knee strap. You'll be like Max Rockatansky.

Everything after the 83/84 bikes used the caliper with the single pad pin Steve Isn’t that the other way round, or am I missing the point? Jon Steve's having a senior moment bless him,

Everything after the 83/84 bikes used the caliper with the single pad pin Steve Thank you Steve. My parts book for the 57V shows two pins though, Could it be that mine is a Euro model? F1 calipers do have 2 pins, and 2 pistons, so you have the wrong ones on there, single central pin is presumably from the earlier LC2 - it might be that you have the wrong fork lowers if that's the case too, as the brakes have differing spacings for the fork fixings, as ever pictures provide the best evidence.

DO NOT USE PETROL - as above it’ll potentially melt the plastic, it will warp them at the least.

Hi there, I'm in a similar spot. I need replacement pins as well as the seal. I've tried to look on various OEM supplier websites to see if any parts are still available (Fowlers, CMS, etc), but none of them seem to display the correct calipers. I've even checked for XJ550 as it seems that they have been used on them as well, but can't find them listed. I will be buying the pad pins, pad retainers, pistons and seals from Norbo, but wondered if anyone knows where I could get the other bits? I have a full set of the pins, just one seal missing from one of the smaller pins, get in touch if you're still after these.

I can collect it, I’m going to Glencoe in a few weeks time, depending on how much room it needs I might be able to get it in the car with everything else?

Sounds like the o ring has been damaged - you'll need to remove the cover again to inspect it, I believe its possible to do it without draining the oil if you rest the bike on its side, need to drain the coolant though.

Worth checking that the rotor is in place and not slipped, woodruff keys sometimes shear.

Got a new one from a member who had 2 made by an engineering shop to cut the cost At the time Metmachex wanted £100 for one. I'd think the new owner may be a bit cheaper though I'll see if I can find and measure mine to see if it's any good to you Steve I still have my original Metmachex spindle too.

Those earth connections you've made aren't too clever, although that won't be the cause of your problem, and the main earth point to the frame is as pictured in the above post - under the coil unit, also ALL the earths are linked up throughout the loom. I would say that the replacement switch is the issue, by-pass it to prove. It is also worth checking that the fuses are intact, try twisting the metal ends slightly, if they revolve or come off then they are useless and need replacing too. You don't need anything connected really to check what you are looking at, loom, battery, switch.

There’s nothing wrong with that, a few bits different from a standard LC2 but essentially its an LC2, the barrels are the correct 31K ones, and the indicators are from a later model as already mentioned, same with the clocks, a bit harsh to say its a BITSA for sure.
