It won't be replaced. I'm struggling for space in my garage, so need to clear the decks a bit. Possibly another 5 or 6 bikes to let go yet, no other RD's before anyone asks! I know if this one goes, I'll never justify another one, and it doesn't make it any easier letting it go.... just out of curiosity why is the rd the 1st to go and what other hidden gems have you got hiding in the depths of your garage lol The RD isn't the first to go. 2 'M' VJ22's, Pepsi RGV VJ21, YSR80, RG500, TDR250, and a DT125LC have gone in the last 6 months or so. Original 1998 R1, KR1S and another TDR250 are on the 'at risk' list next.

No offence taken Paul. I'm still torn on selling it to be honest. I think you will regret selling it - follow your feelings and keep it. Cheers Paul I'm already regretting it, and it's still here with me

Hi, I've got a one owner low mileage RD500 in good condition - I reckon it's worth £7000 to £8000 on a good day ( I think even this is a crazy price ! ) Originality seems important to a lot of people aspiring to and owning RD500's - so go over the bike and make sure the small easily fixed details are correct. Your bike looks really good, but the missing Yamaha decals on the belly pan for example can give a wrong impression to a picky buyer - I think a small investment in money and time fixing small faults will pay off - however don't pay too much out - good quality RD500 spares prices are a bit crazy at the moment. Hope this helps. Cheers Paul Decals aside, I would normally agree with you. But in this case, I'd prefer to see the flaws, rather than repair the bits I've listed. They would require paint to finish, therefore taking away the originality. The new owner could make that decision, but that originality is then gone. Maybe I'm unusual in this outlook, small cosmetic issues don't put me off, it just means its been around for 30 years! Repairs can also make me wonder to what extent the damage really consisted of.

Well, I'm very surprised. No insults or silly offers, so far! Thanks guys!
I've searched all the usual outlets for a guide on 500 prices, and only seem to have come across the same 3, up at £9995, an obscene £17995, and a project for £4995.
Not really guides to help with the value of mine. I don't want to be silly and overvalue it, but at the same time, I don't want to undervalue it and sell myself short.
I'll put up an advert in the For Sale section, and see what interest I get.
Thanks for your help everyone!

Not been on here for a while, and lost touch a bit with what's going on, illness and life getting in the way... I've come to the conclusion that I need to clear the decks a bit, and let some bikes go to new homes. One is my RD500. Almost all original, 7k miles, loads of paperwork to support this low mileage, etc. But prices seem all over the shop recently, and I'm having trouble finding a fair value to put on it, both for me and a buyer. Can any sensible, fair minded people suggest their opinions on value, before I advertise it, even if it is fruit/biscuits/soup....?

My LC has only had 3 previous owners, and all the paperwork to support it from day 1.

You've got 3 weeks left to get your LC running hamski, if you want to meet up for this one. Unless you turn up in a car, just to see other strokers!

Loving that! I guess it depends on how often you used it, just occasional use would be ok, but daily commuting would be a financial killer.

If everything goes to plan, I hope to get there for the weekend too. Did Cadwell with them 2 years ago on the TDR, had a great time.

I went self-employed 10 years ago, and it's the best decision I ever made. It's not easy though. But I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Keep things simple, work from home initially to keep costs down, bear in mind that your working hours wont only be office hours as your doing your normal job, plus the extra work involved in running the business. I'm a sole trader, as it's the simplest way to start out, and it was recommended to me to take this avenue first, as you can go Ltd any time after, with no issues. I have a local govt business centre which can advise you on all things self employed for free, see if you have one near you. They are a big help for all the details you need to start and continue in being self employed. Good Luck if you give it a go

Wayne Rainey? Yup, Wayne Rainey it is. Got him to sign it, along with his autobiography and a period set of Nankai Marlboro leathers at Stafford in 2011.

Cheers Norbo! As I understand it, if you modify or change the exhaust, and change the jetting to suit, you shouldn't be far away from a UK RD. But I may be wrong......

Thanks everyone for the welcome so far RD is unrestored/unpainted. Ridden often in nice weather. Tidy condition, but I think the pic makes it look better than it really is. It was used in MCN in 2011, celebrating 25 years since Silverstone was used for GP's, with McElnea, Mackenzie and Haslam in the write up, along with RG500 and NS400 too as comparisons to their racebikes.

It's over 70 miles for me, but its closer than the usual Yorkshire meet. I'm going, but not decided yet whether to ride there, or take a couple in the van. I know some people will definately be taking some of theirs in vans, so you wouldn't be the odd one out if you did van it.

Something that's been set up on another forum, which should be right up your street, details copied over here:
Date : Saturday 13th April 2013. Venue : Fromebridge Mill, just off M5 J13 near Stroud, GL2 7PD.
The pub is kindly letting us take over their spare carpark for the day, as long as you lot all promise to buy plenty of food and drink.
The idea is simply to meet up, fill the carpark with as many cool 2 stroke bikes as we can, drink coffee/tea, chat, snap some photos, take the piss out of each others' tasteless 1980's leather jackets, and fill our faces with pub grub.
At some point we plan to go for a bit of a ride-out : not too far, and on roads that would suit Fizzy's as well as RD500's. All suggestions for a destination welcome. Not compulsory either, you can stay at the pub and kick tyres instead if you prefer.
Feel free to mention it to your mates and post it on other relevant forums if you like. But we want to keep it to the kind of bikes we all love on here, no modern race-rep or adventure-sport nonsense please. Four-strokes are allowed if that's all you've got, but they'll have to be rare, old and cool.
Also feel free to bring 2 or 3 bikes along in a van if you want to show 'em off. If it looks like there might be a decent turnout, we might try and persuade one of the magazines to come along, or at least publish some photos.
It's a one-off for now, but if it goes well then we might try and build it - eventually - into a SW version of the excellent Yorkshire 2-Stroke Gathering.

I ordered one for my DT125LC last year from my local Yamaha dealer, so should still be available, but I know Webbs of Lincoln are good for old stroker parts too.

Hi, I'm Rob, and I've finally made the effort to register on here! I'm a member on most 2 stroke forums, but I'm a bit of a low poster, just shy I guess I own an RD500LC, which has been pretty much reliable in the 9 years I've owned it too (touches wood!) Now looking for a 4LO and a 31k....
