Anyone got any experience of cameras for capturing nighttime pictures? Something seems to disturb my dogs every night around the same time and they go mental properly barking and trying to get out the house. By the time I get up turn the lights on and open the doors whatever it is, is long gone. We are surrounded by fields, there are only 4 houses in the hamlet and only two are fully occupied. I’d like to try and capture whatever it is. Thanks

Fox on night patrol. Sit up one night and have a watch. I have a cheap image intensifier with infra red light if its needed, for what I payed it works surprisingly well.

I did think fox Steve but they generally keep well clear, two of the dogs are Pyrenean mountain dog crosses, we’ve a field of sheep and fox’s generally keep away. The sheep also get unsettled.

The Beast of Bodmin on its holidays...
I bought a cheapo Aldi trail camera years back and its been surprisingly good for what it cost for stuff like this.

Wife has phones me at work apparently there is now a break in the fence and bizarrely an animal faeces she doesn’t recognise. I think I’ll look at investing in a camera.

It’s bizarre I’m home but can’t really see anything we don’t have street lights, and my outside lights don’t cover it. I’ll look tomorrow. I’m also going to buy a camera and see if it highlights anything. Then I’ll see.

Best way to solve it is go to the nearest zoo and get a bucket of lion shite
Spread it around the perimeter of your property
Any animal that doesn't think "feck that I'm out of here" is too stupid to do you harm

It generally happens between 01.00 hrs and 02.00 hrs. Thing is Steve the big dogs are big hence why we never get animals on the land. They are bred to defend flocks of sheep they actually deter wolves. So it is something big, something stupid or something completely confident in its ability. I’ve Amazon primed a camera so hopefully I’ll get it set up tomorrow. I’ll try to stay awake tonight.

So I’ve got a camera and I’ll set it up for tonight. I’ve looked at the damage to the fence. It’s weird it’s like something bigger than the dogs, but smaller than a human has attempted to push their way through. There’s is also dark and coarse hair, clumps of it. The faeces well I’m not posting picks of crap, but it’s totally weird almost a cross between human (but small) and one of my dogs. The other weird thing about it, is the dogs are repelled by it which is unusual, normally cat/dog/fox/sheep and cattle are attractive to my dogs. Hopefully I’ll see tonight/tomorrow. 👍

Not sure the camera she uses, but I'm down here at my father's property in Los Altos (Northern California suburb between San Jose and San Francisco), and his wife catches all sorts on her nighttime trail cam. Bobcats (+/- 45lbs) and Coyotes (+/- 35lbs) are quite common, but a few weeks ago, she caught an approximately 120lb + Mountain Lion (Puma/Cougar) walking down the driveway about 2am*. Since then, I always make a lot of noise when I'm out walking after dark. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougar*not actual trailcam shot UPDATE: She says she uses an Arlo wifi security camera. She is able to view the footage on her phone or laptop, and it sends an alert when it catches something. Looks like it was around $200. Pretty cool sh!t.
