That would be a good "sticky" for the Help and Advice section ALTERNATIVE PARTS

Was hoping Steve (Midlifecrisis) would start it with his post, or one of the mods with more RD knowledge than me. It is easy for the mods to copy that post into a new thread.

So I finally had some time to get back onto this one. Got the Suzuki instrument rubbers installed, as mentioned by Steve. Got the F2 dials into the N2 cases. Had to separate a couple of the idiot light wires and cram them all in. All good. New Bridgestones fitted to the freshly painted wheels.

So the F2 footpegs were trashed, so I found these. I think from a Fazer. Actually prefer the look, so pretty happy with them. The pins were too long, so I had to shorten them and cut a new grove for the circlip. Had to get creative without a lathe, using a pillar drill to hold the pin and a dremel to cut the groove. Worked well.

More wiring completed and the horn relocated to the N2 position. Had to extend the horn wires.

I was getting everything ready to button up, but then it all went a little south, checking the PV adjustment. Loads of play in the coupler / ends. So I checked the compression. Also down at 93psi on both. This is with a rebuilt motor from a shop in Buckingham, with a ton of receipt. FFS. I was kicking myself as I usually check the compression first of all, but didn't given the receipts.

But the previous owner seemed genuine. I think the shop he used was pretty hopeless. Looks like it had a partial seizure on the new .75 over pistons. Now all shipped for rebore, along with some spare 4LO barrells I have for another project.

So I stripped down and checked the 2UA 00 carbs . Clean, with original jets except the mains, which might be the cause of the issue. Non original jets marked 104. Should be 185 I believe. Bizarre. I'll get some 195 jets given the polini exhausts and removal of the airbox snorkle.

That's a right bummer on the seizure
I'd be checking the oil pump in case that's the cause
Coming on nicely, the fazer footrest worked out really well

Will do Steve. Any idea about the 104 stamped main jets?

Never even considered trying to fit a Dellorto jet in a Mikuni, but that looks suspiciously like one.
If so then the seizing may not be because of this. That jet is almost the equivalent of a 210 Mikuni jet, so maybee about right for expansions?
Either way, bin them and get the correct ones.

Cheers.

You don’t need one.
Dellorto and I believe Keihin have jet sizes that are in millimeters ie 104 is 1.04mm.
As far as I’m aware Mikuni just double. So a 210 jet measures 1.05mm.

I'd want to check the length of the jet
If shorter it may cause fuel starvation if not reaching low enough

So I had some time to get back on this one for a few days. I put 200 jets in from Allens, or at least tried to. One of main jet nozzles has a damaged thread, caused by ramming a Dellorto jet in there, so I need another one of those. Going to call Allens, as recommended by Steve. Got the barrells back from PJs, bored out from 0.75 to 1mm over. Looking good, the only thing was they cleaned / blasted off the fresh pain on there. So back to some more black engine enamel.

After fitting new PV buses and seals, I spent the usual time (ages), cleaning off old gaskets, then fitted the new pistons after gapping the rings. The 2nd rings were a little tight, so clearanced as per spec. Fitted the new pistons and jugs onto the cases, then torqued the head up.

With the motor back together, I stripped down an old 4LO headlight rim, rubbed it down and painted it satin black for the N2 look. I need to get a sidelight for it with a bayonet fitting. Anyone know where to get them? Had to trim down a rubber one before, but would rather get the proper item.

Finally managed to get back to this one. Got a bunch of these bulb holders for a tenner, put one into the headlight after some dremel action. Got the top end back on, fitted a new coil too. ]

Side stand had no pin for the spring and also needed some welding / repair. Gear lever had a load of slop, so a new rose joint too.

Bodywork all sprayed in 2k, then 2k clear coat and flatted back for the decals. One trip to image works later: Dead chuffed, looks great!

Muddy, tank and side panels on. Still can't find the grab rail, damm it. The first time I've worked on an F2. I do like how the tank bolts on, plus the side panels.

Started up my F2/N2 Italian job after a full rebuild.
It struggled to run at first due to some fuel restriction in the tap, but now runs sweet.
Took it for a brief test ride, all good!
Now to button it all up and take some pics!
