Does anyone know what material the BDK one is made of as it looks like normal gasket material? The original one is quite a hard material.

Rolie did a thread on it. The gasket from him is more like a plastic than paper. I'm sure he mentions the material he used. The rotational play between the basket and the gear would shred a paper gasket in no time at all. 20220929_201347 by dusty miller, on Flickr

Rolie used Mylar-A material, which looks a better option.

They are the same material, just the light is different. They were cut from one sheet.
This is an equivalent of Mylar-A, as that is not available from my supplier.
The material is called PMX500. It is classed as a polyester film.
I will put some offcuts in my gearbox oil to see if it gets affected.
Info from supplier :-
Excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability Does not become brittle with age under normal conditions Good resistance to moisture and most chemicals Can withstand temperatures of -70C to +150C

I noticed the YPVS has different shaped gasket. I wonder if that would be a better shape to fit.
Just a reminder to all readers of this thread there is one make of clutch basket that is designed to be used without a gasket.
Can't remember the make.

Thanks, but you need 500 micron material for this job, which I could not see on their site. Also, they would be expensive, as we have to pay import duty from the EU now.

Yes, the same problem for us. Importing from the UK is (very) expensive in terms of import duties and bank charges.

I just made these... I live in Germany and I was able to order 500 Mikron Mylar. Mine is hand-cut and does not look as good as your gasket. And now I have 24 sheets in stock, because 25 was the minmal order size.

Might not be of any help, but just in case, here's photos of one in my spares boxes, you can see on one face evidence of rubbing, so there must be some movement between the two components, maybe gets worse when the round rubbers get worn or break up?

Looks like a later Ypvs version. They deform or get worn due to the rotational play between the basket and the gear. I wonder if this design is more robust than the earlier gaskets, many of which tear or deform due to their narrow shape ? Dusty

Dusty I suspect this is somewhat more robust than the earlier designs due to it having more meat? It would also appear to be designed to fit snugly over the four "posts" which I expect helps it to better resist moving under the rotational forces?

Hello all, My clutch basket needs a refresh, but after much research I still can't seem to find a suitable replacement gasket. This thread is great, but 500 micron mylar seems hard to find / expensive, and my own thoughts are that the paper option won't live long enough, so I'd prefer not to use that. I've been talking to a very helpful and knowledgable UK gasket company and am thinking about a limited run. Early days, no pricing or lead-time yet, and I certainly don't want to tread on any toes if someone has still has a 'not-paper' solution for sale. Please do share the link if this exists!
But... if I can get a batch made for a reasonable price, how many might want one? And what do people think a 'reasonable' price might be?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Welcome to the forum. Speak to Rob - 4l04ever - and see if he plans to start producing them. He does other, quality gaskets, so he may start supplying these. Dusty
