Hi everyone, had few jobs to do today on the bikes ,I went into work to use the lathe ,my brother's forks are fzr 400 and are to long ,so we had a work out and I've cut 25 mm off them ,this bringing them closer to stock ! Then re cut the thread's internally . I've not used the screw cutting gear on the lathe's before so I called in my good friend Phill ,he's been a precision engineer all his life , although he's now a office bod πhe's still very clever . I met him at the workshop this morning he brought some bits we didn't have mainly the cutting tip for 1 mm threads ,the thread is M30 X 1.0 mm pitch thread .so we got set up and he did his thing with me over his shoulder! So today I've learned how to screw cut ,old school πI've been wanting to do it for age's ,it's something we don't really have to do at work ,so thanks Phil , another job off the list for bro ! Thanks

In todayβs world of CNC engineering, it is great seeing good old school work being done and to a great standard too. Fine skills there. π

Fine skills there. π I totally agree ,my mate Phill ,I met him when I got my first job at 16 ,think he was 28 at the time ,I was in the fabrication side he was machine shop , and then he used to make awesome things for off shore / driving equipment all on the manual lathe's / mills really intricate stuff it use to fascinate me ,and he's very anal π€£,we have been friends ever since ! I'm now 40

I love looking at Chris's welds against the original Yamaha ones, pigeons everywhere! Andy. ha ha funny you should say that ! Looking at my LC frame the welding is rubbish ,full of spatter ,even bit of mig wire poking out on the rad mount, when I strip it for powder coating I'm going to go over it all .

Too funny, I spent a bit of time trying to recreate the Yam poor welding when I did my framework so it looked original in case any tester here wanted to say my frame had been er, 'modded'... not all mate! lol Im not the best welder at all, but wow the OEM stuff was terrible if i had to struggle to recreate it lol

Hi everyone , I've made a new gear leaver for the pv ,the original was shagged and bent ! I brought a linkage kit off the bay ,2 ball joints and the threaded rod with lh and rh thread . I cut the new lever from 6 mm st st ,I cut a nice curved shape like stock ! ,I machined up a st st bush for the pin ,and machined up the toe part , this is puddle welded in the back so you can't see the weld . I welded the pin bush in with my Tig ! The finish is brushed , it looks really nice better thank the stock steel one for sure!! The gear leaver sits on a pin and c clip holds it on !! The pin was shagged to so I've machined up a new pin to go with the new bush ! This time I've drilled n taped the end m6 so it's held on with a nice dome head with a washer ,better than a c clip imo !! I've got a new st st bolt and welded the new pin to it ,and machined a groove in for the greese ! It's tight as a drum no play at all and looks trick (I think) ππ

Absolutely outstanding!
So, can we add rearsets to the list of things you could potentially make/sell??
I know these are based on standard footrests etc but if you can do that...And there are few options for LC/YPVS rearsets!

Chris. Can I hang about your workshop just to make tea and learn stuff? This thread is an education on its own. Superb buddy and keep the pics coming. John
