That takes some beating as its only taken the CX 40 years to become cool. Oh the shame of it.. Has the CX become 'cool'? Maybe the 650 Turbo version. It wasn't called the 'plastic maggot' for nothing π€£ Hanging my head in shame at having had a CX and a KQ seat! I did replace it with a 900SS, then the power valve and then a Stan Stephens stage 1 500LC. Almost indestructible bike though, my brother was a London courier using a CX500, a very popular choice amongst the couriers.

you guys all had too much money... marti I didn't have a lot, but what I did have was spent on the bike! Same here , got "Lucky" at 16 by having my leg snapped by a Ford Granada, 6 months in plaster and another 3 months in a support calliper compo paved the way for a brand new 4L0 LC in 1983 (last years model from Team Ham Yam). Despite the senile decay I can still vividly remember it arriving one evening on a trailer with two other bikes. "Manuals under the seat, Here`s Keys, See Ya" from delivery driver. Took a while to work out how to lift seat. Despite relatively good jobs since leaving college in 1986 never had much money as its spent on bikes and racing them when I could afford it .Not being able to afford food helped keep the weight down for racing . Never smoked and not spent a lot on booze, used to home brew.

I can also remember fitting a king / queen seat to my CX500, which was amazingly comfy That takes some beating as its only taken the CX 40 years to become cool. Oh the shame of it.. I had 6 CXβs in a row. Thatβs how cool I wasπ This is my last one in 2008 at a rally in Spain. My mates on their vintage bikes were gutted at all the attention my bike got whenever we parked up

They were the 'go to' bike for couriers, back when couriers filled the streets of London. Very reliable with things like shaft drive, liquid cooled, pushrod activated valves, if you changed the oil and filter regularly they went for miles, once you made the factory mods to things like the timing chain of course. I remember the 'plain jane' Z550 was another popular bike with couriers. Another service that disappeared with the rise of technology.

Reminds me of a comment a mechanic friend of mine made to a 'well built' guy at the Bulldog Bash one year, who was asking how he could make his bike 'go faster'...'lose some weight' was the reply π

Yeah! he had a Z550 too, and he isn't a courier anymore, moved on to private hire (taxi type thing) last bike he had being a courier was VFR750 MK1, best bike of all he said, I had a VFR750 F2 and they are awesome bikes.

Kees and i took the LC's for a ride with some of the Rotterdam hipsters. There was a fella there with a fabulous CX500 cafe racer it looked and sounded the business. He egged Kees on for a bit of a sprint and Kees left him behind. The fella asked me what i did to make Kees's bike so fast. I told him it was a standard 250 engine and he did not believe me, he thought i was pulling his leg as it said 350 on the side panels of Kees's bike. They are still a turd in my eyes no matter how much glitter you put on them.

"worst" as in nearly killed me and a friend, was some green LED tyre fly valve caps I fitted to my ZX9 back in 1999/2000.
I noticed the valve was nigh on pulling out of the rim and was at a jaunty angle, just from the "weight" of the centrifugal force the cap had put on the valve at high speed.
My mate had some fitted to his R1 as well, so I told him what id found but he decided to ignore it as his valves looked OK.
Few weeks later, around 160MPH down the A43, he suffered a sudden tyre deflation due to the valve being ruptured, he managed to slow to around 100MPH before he went up the grass! Bike was a total loss but he was OK thankfully..
Few years later, I was at RAF Woodbridge on my Hayabusa and witnessed the same thing happen again, luckily id learnt my lesson then and only use light tin caps with rubber ) rings, same reason Kawasaki and some other manufacturers fit 90 degree valve stems.
So , alloy , LED, aftermarket valve caps, definitely my worst move!

Where do I start? SS50...managed to get a disc brake front end to swap over from the drum brake. Looked cool, brakes were then useless. Moved on to an RS100. Did I ruin it? Painted the frame red, the tank in Marlboro colours. A nifty single seat in the same colours. Clock protector bars, KH speedo and rev counter so it could now do 140mph and a KH250 expansion pipe. I got through a tyre art pen every week on the brand new Pirellis that I discovered were for race use only!? The list does go on a bit but by the time I got my first LC I calmed down, well...sort of lol.

Couple stand out really, not an add on but me at 6' 6" tall on an FSIE (even worse a Cimatti) I only weighed about 9 stone piss wet through, I'd look a bonnier sight on one now. I could list hundreds really but a 3 into 1 piper on my kettle was up there, it didn't last long on there because it made my ears bleed, made the bike "a lot" slower and pissed my neighbours right off, it sort of sounded ace though. Well if were dredging up the 'cool' stuff... I also had a very cool set of twin pipes on my MT5 (sadly not in this pic) as yes the cross over did melt the oil feed pipe lol. There was a huge modding scene in Holland for the MT. I decked mine out in pure 80s 'style'... and did it in the most useful colour you can do an everyday bike...white. Hmm... One look at the pics makes me wonder what i was thinking... If you look closely you can see I added an extra brake light hanging from the rack. I also wired the brake lights into dual filament bulbs in the indicators which lit both of them as well when you braked. The mudflap hanging off the front was a 'thing' that actually worked... until you were going to fast and it bent back lol. This bike was 70cc, would do 110kph easily all day long. The drum brakes seemed to cope fine lol.

Worst accessory? Ermm.. always fitted something that would make the bike better i.e. not "bling" (whatever that is) Only thing I ever put on a bike that was utter wank, was a Dyson kit on an aircooled..... thankfully I realised I looked a right t**t the same day if my memory is correct... either that or it traumatised me.... The most pointless piece of shite I've ever owned.

Luckily a mate of a mate had done an "insurance job" on his mtx50 and still had the bike Got the engine and wheels off him and stripped both engines and swapped the crank cases to the legit number set The mate worked for an upholstery company and had a mate who worked as a powder coater What's the worst that could happen? Royal blue frame and seat. Engine done in honda CR red Bodywork in the Honda orange Looked like a plastic toy π€£π€£π€£ Steve

I have something like that for checking for a spark π www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637206111/in-line-ignitionht-spark-testerI bought the one above many years ago now, mainly for car use to be honest,.....not that useful now considering that a lot of motors are designed with such long HT leads/coil packs, there's no chance of connecting this tester.

jota bars from mpc - you know the ones with the allen bolts that allowed you to do from cow horn wide bars to the most fearsome drop downs - great idea, but the bars where not index cut so you looked a bit like Joey D.. riding down the road with one arm lower than the other

Worst moove ever made was my Dt125 lc back as an L plater teen, the knobblie was worn nearly to the canvass doing to many burnouts, decided to pinch the rear tyre of my bros Rd 250 air-cooled, same rim size and had at least a mm of tread on wich was not a canvass slick like wot was on originally,, gotta keep the nice police man happy π€£I thought yep thatle go on, I was very wots the word dum then, no tyre levers, wots them?? 4 of my mums spoons soon had it of and on the dt mint I'm of out,, so I'm doing 50 through the local buss station hit the rear brake and yep as the tyre section was 70%thinner in width than the knobley it went down quicker than a German whore just remember pain and my dt highsideing spinning bits flying of it, got up quicker than I came down,, trying to look unaffected, picked it up straight home and had to cut the tyre of the rim to get the pig off,, junior hacksaw through side bead,, sweat cursing blaming the obvious diesel on floor from busses ,, utter fool, image gone, praying no one saw me but yeah it was seen, did you drop your bike in buss Station other day mate π€ nope was no me mate πππ still got the grave rash scar , π€£π€£π€£ never did that again π€£π€£π€£π€£ best bike ever lol took headlight and front mudguard of just forks and wheel used to think I was Eddie kidd riding high movie,, file of death into Reed block and ports no idea then,, make the whole bigger mate mentality it was wild pxd it and Westgate Rd Newcastle for a cr125 regular visits from po po started and the two stroke buzz casrol r smell was born,,,, oh the days πππ
