I ended up using a 1mm thrust washer instead of 3mm thick, the basket was from Chariot and the inner basket was from Hinson. The only thing altered was the thrust washer.
The clutch held 66nm of torque without a problem. The springs I used were standard YPVS. Coded with yellow paint.

Sorry guys. Measure twice and order once😤 The 44x25x1.5mm is too small. It has to be 45x25x1.5mm. A cagiva w16 600 1997 flywheel part has this washer.

Is there any reason why you can't simply machine the steel plates down to accommodate the eighth clutch plate?

Is there any reason why you can't simply machine the steel plates down to accommodate the eighth clutch plate? I suspect any thinner and they are prone to warp? Jon

Filing in progress Sorry, I can’t see that is a picture of machining the steels thinner which WILL make them more prone to warp (as said)? Have you taken a bit off the top an bottom surface of the inner and top parts of the basket? If so I will watch with interest. ps I do have the equipment which is why I’m interested. Jon

Won’t this mean the primary and secondary gear will be miss-aligned by using a thinner washer? Could the primary drive be ground back 1.5mm? Would there be even more chance of the kickstart idler gear skimming this secondary drive? Jon

Hi Jon you have two thick 3mm washers one sits directly behind/next to the clutch basket. If you machine this washer you have no misalignment with your primaries. In Marcel' s last post i think he is talking about filing. I would imagine he has removed the thickness of one friction plate from the landing surface of the clutch basket. When you do this the outside tangs of the bottom friction plate can hit the radius of the clutch plate fingers. These need to be filed square. I'm sure he will be along to explain.

In order to gain enough stack height i took a 1,5mm washer and filed castels deeper down.

I was going to try this but since changing the oil and fitting a genuine cable it doesn't seem to be slipping 🤔
