Refurbing my LC switchgear. Any tricks to getting the brass and plastic light switch out of the housing without fvcking it up? I've lubed, pulled, pushed, twisted and pulled some more and she doesn't want to budge.

I'm sure the brass U shaped piece pulls out with the whole switch assembly. The wired part pops out and the White part is sandwiched in between the two.

Is there a spring and ball in there as well? Plenty of wd40 and my new fave idea nicked from dusty do it in a bag.

Found this in a thread dated 2012: Clearly the switch comes out as a whole. Just not sure how. I'll resume genly prying, tugging, twisting and pulling, but am all ears to any secret tips.

I seem to remember that it comes out by being lifted straight up and out. See if you can grip the end plate parts with long nose pliers and pull upwards.

Using a bag for dismantling is good advice.. save you searching the floor on your hands and knees looking for small springs and ball bearings...

The whole brass housing slides up and out. then you prize the arms apart and the contacts end comes off, setting the white plastic part free.
There is a spring and ball on the back IIRC.
To get the whole switch up and out try a 90deg pick under it. its a friction fit but shouldnt be impossible... assuming that you have removed the thumb switch itself from the front...

That was my next plan of attack. I've no intention of dismantling the switch. Just want to get it out of the housing to strip and paint. etc.

You don't need to remove that if you just want to restore the outer part of the switchgear. I've done loads and have never seen the need to take that part out...

Alex Thanks Alex, I was planning on chucking the housings in the ultrasonic to shift the grease and scunge from the inside and soften up the paint on the outside, then heat cure at 90c after prep and paint. Got a bit of white powder corrosion on the outside as well, so not just a wipe down and spray affair Good to know though. I may just leave it in situ then.
