HI troops
Need some advice , I purchased an RD 350 with a 250 engine fitted the bike came with an additional 350 engine that had been rebuilt by the previous owner, The guy has his own garage so i was pretty confident that the engine would be good to go , having slotted the engine in i went to connect up the Pump cable and found the pump to be seized , took the 2 holding bolts out and although the pump comes away from the casing i cannot for the life of me remove it , anyone got any experience of this or good advice

You need to remove the RH side cover to remove the drive gear off the oil pump shaft, to remove the pump.

You need to remove the RH side cover to remove the drive gear off the oil pump shaft, to remove the pump. FYI, the 250 and 350 pumps have different drive "worms" and are not interchangeable, unless you replace the drive gear, shaft (worm) as well as the pump

I think you should still be able to slowly pull the pump from the drive shaft, unless this worm drive is the shaft that's seized (ie the one inside the pump itself). I was looking at my pump a few weeks ago, and could just push the drive shaft into the housing quite easily.

Hi all I thought the pump should just pull away ok once the two securiing screws are removed to just leave the worm drive in place that will require the side case removal to remove due to drive gear? But like the last thread said if a 350 pump has been pushed onto a 250 worm drive the pump could be stuck and worse case knackered due to the incorrect mesh of a 250 worm drive / 350 worm drive gear Best wishes Al

The pump will pull off with the casing intact. It's the pump shaft that you cant pull out whilst the casing is on, due to the gear cog and circlip keeping it in place. Have you tried turning the engine over on the kickstart whilst pulling the pump towards you but not allowing it to twist ? Failing that, if you remove the casing, then gearcog and circlip, you will at least be able to remove the pump and the shaft from the casing for a better look. Good luck Dusty

I've seen a few where the bush is stuck in the pump. Again, it will come off as described above, then you can sort the bush out.

Good luck Dusty I remember now, the fog of not owning an LC for several years is slowly thinning! I always run premix, so no hassle with the throttle cable or oil pump, but have to take the side cover off to remove the drive gear.
