Hi all
I'm just in the process of refurbing my foot peg hangers on my 31K, the dilemma is I'm looking for a small amount of maintainance, I've shot blasted them and the are lovely and clean, a mate of mine was kind enough to powder coat them in a gloss clear coat but it totally changed the colour of them looks like they have been painted grey, so I removed the clear coat shot blasted again and he powder coated them again in satin clear for me and it was a lot better, but still not 100%, I want to do some sort or lacquer / clear powder on the back of the hangers to protect them as you never get to clean the back and it would be a pain if you did, and maybe vapour blast the fronts as I've read somewhere vapour blasting seals the pours in the ally then I can just wipe with ACF50, I've read a lot of posts on here what others have done to hangers and fork legs, so was just wondering what your thoughts are. Vapour blast the whole thing and wipe with ACF50, or clear powder coat just the backs for protection and wipe the fronts, peaple have said lacquer yellows and flakes over time, anyone had there's vapour blasted ?
Cheers

Vapor blast then a bit of car wax is all I do on all matte finish aluminum. Footrest hangers, fork lowers, etc.
Holds up well enough for me, and clear coat always peels or discolors eventually

Don't know if it make a diffeance but it's on a 31K.

I think vapour blasting is the key it’s a great finish then maybe scotchbrite and acf50/was to protect The best thing about VB besides the appealing finish, is it smooths and seals the pores in the ally making it much more resistant to staining, grease, dirt etc. Dry blasting opens the pores and leaves lots of pockets for stains to grip on and accumulate. Sealing the VB surface with a thin film of wax, silicone, acf50, etc further protects.

The problem for the colour is that you blasted them. if they were polished the clear would look fine. It just looks very silver on blasted surfaces. I used to blast the backs and the areas where the pegs mount (on LCs) and polish the fronts, then when powdered it looks pretty close to the OEM finish.
These days I polish them and leave it at that as I has some issues with oils leaching out under the powder which was annoying.
