Very nice . Looking forward to seeing these cans finished . I made a pair for a mate of mine a couple of years ago rolled the body on a small rolling machine and made the end caps out of 8mm ali plate .

Hi Alex ,not long really I Tig weld them so no need to grind them ,the brackets took a long time working out where to put them and how to hang ,lots of cardboard cut outs ha ha , when I got the pipes of Martin Johnson they are welded down the center seams I just have to put the sections together twist them to get them to work etc if that makes sense 😊 Chris

Fantastic work Chris The pipes look great. I had an Lc hybrid with a pair of Martin's hydroformed pipes fitted, and they looked lovely. Seeing your special taking form gets me excited about doing another aircooled build. They are such good looking bikes, and I love the big, blocky looking engine of the aircooleds. Keep those pics coming Dusty

Hi Happy New Year! I got the chance to finish my end cans today ,all I have to do is pack them and rivit the ends on , I'm going to polish the spout end and have the can vapour blasted that will leave a nice satin finish.I changed the cans on the first I used 6x M6 dome heads to hold the can to the base but they looked too bulky the heads. Should of used m5 maybe ! I had enough tube and cut two more this time so I welded the base to the can, looks better I feel and that eliminates any leak point to I suppose. I welded the perforated tube to the cap and a bit of tube on the other end that slips nicely into the base to locate and it fits snug , can't wait to bolt them on !! Few pictures of them and a picture with the bulky bolts too. Hope you enjoy ,I enjoyed making them. Chris IMG_20191230_173720 by Chris, on Flickr This is the first one, you can see the bolts look too bulky in my opinion. Hi ,instead of fixing the end caps with rivets you could use 5mm captive nuts with button head screws.

Hi ,I've had a good afternoon and made some progress!!! Made a side stand bracket ,(took 3 attempts) to get it right ha ha .fitted a tzr 250 stand as they bolt on and I got it for under £10 so I'm chuffed with that . Also got my pipes finished ,welded the spout bit with the flange on to the main chambers ,I've been waiting for the tube to turn up since x mas took ages getting both sides lined up symmetrical!! But I got there ,I then fitted my end cans and I'm chuffed to bits with them ,I will pack them once they've been vapour blasted ,I'm definitely no mark dent ha ha but I got some satisfaction making these .few pictures for you off to watch a iron maiden tribute band tonight happy days ,Chris 🙂 IMG_20200104_152308 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_152318 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_160012 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_160006 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_160111 (1) by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_155937 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_155959 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_160022 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200104_160045 by Chris, on Flickr

The exhausts look great Chris I love the way they kick up quite high at the back. And I've got the same stand and bracket on my Café build, but never was quite sure what it was off - now I know !! Keep up the great work Dusty

I agree, this bike is looking awesome I think the coffin tank aircooled bikes really lend themselves to modification, either café racer or race rep. I love the look of the engines, chunky and very much of their time ! Bloody heavy bikes though compared to Lc's and Pv's. Just moving mine around in the garage shows how much weight Yamaha slashed when the built the Lc. Dusty
