Er... I'm sure. Good to see the airbox in, the KTM has a sizable airbox so that's amazing you managed that.

Er... I'm sure. Good to see the airbox in, the KTM has a sizable airbox so that's amazing you managed that. Could only just squeeze in the actual air filter unit, there's no airbox as such but once the side panels are on the space under there is probably fairly similar to the volume of the KTM airbox, there's lots of big gaps of course, but the KTM airbox breathes through various vents and the panel gaps make it far from a sealed box so it may well be OK. Time will tell.

Agreed the KTM box is pretty 'leaky' and relies on the area under the huge filter more than anything I reckon.

For ease of cooling system plumbing on this, it works far easier to have the flow reversed through the radiator, i.e. bottom hose to radiator top inlet and top hose to radiator bottom inlet. Is this likely to cause any problems? I won't run a 'stat so as far as I can see, it should circulate and cool ok even though it's reversed. Your thoughts gentlemen please? I'll post photos to show the reversed pipework.

i'd check the water pump can cope with the extra hosing particularly those 90 fittings, they do create quite a bit of flow loss and the change of direction is the pump now pumping coolant up through the radiator or only pumping up to the top of the radiator
most systems have flow from top to bottom to give the circulating pump static head (i think ive got that right)

Also depends on which way the KTM pumps its water, but I think the pump is front right like on the RD/RZ and sucks water from the rad and pumps thru the engine.
if that is the case, then I think a problem is that youre drawing off the hot water (at the top of the rad) instead of the cooler water at the bottom of the rad where its settled as its been cooled by the air running thru the rad.

I think that is right concerning coolant flow and may cause it to run warmer than usual, something to check when I get it running. If need be, I'll have to plumb it right way round, it would also give me the opportunity to find a more elegant solution.

Not had much inclination to do anything on this over the horrible winter months but spring is on the way so started up again. Bottom engine mount is now in and seems to hold it quite sturdily. Got an exhaust sorted too, no idea if it will work as it comprises a header pipe mated to a standard RD spannie, be interesting to see if it holds the engine back but whatever happens, it should work well enough for preliminary running and to get it MOT'd. I'll get it welded up as soon as a mate of mine can come over to do it.

Lockdown has seen reasonable progress on this over the last couple of weeks, getting bits is hit and miss with the post though, some things arrive in the usual 2 or 3 days, others can take up to a couple of weeks. Ditched the earlier double mudguard idea (must have been drinking too much....) and improved the cooling system plumbing which appears to work well. Anyway, lots more to do but here's a photo of how it is currently.

LOL, too funny Such a unique build. Cant wait to hear what you think it rides like when this C19 is over.

LOL, too funny Such a unique build. Cant wait to hear what you think it rides like when this C19 is over. I've ridden it up and down the drive but only 15 feet or so in first gear, it feels lively! My main concern is how the engine will run with my cobbled up exhaust. Time will tell.

Turned out to be a high spec machine in the end. Magura hydraulic clutch, domino throttle etc etc... all gifts from the KTM side of the equation Looks a lot letter than it has any right to really lol. Cant wait to see what you think riding it around.

KTMAHUMPH MOT'd today, straight through, no advisories.
It rides nicely, more vibey compared to a regular 350 and as I suspected, the pipe is strangling the engine somewhat so now need to find someone to make a proper chamber for it but all in all, quite pleased.
