It came out of the bag that contained a set of full YPVS transmission shafts. I stripped the engine and put it in the bag a few years back, but I didnt see it then. Its obviously some kind of key. But does anyone know where this comes from? I cant think of any place in our engine for this key... none of the gear shafts or gears have anything like this in them, so where might it have come from... or was it in the bag already? or dropped in by some git to cause a problem? It's obviously led a life looking at the damage lol Sizes: - end to end 11.98 - width 4.97mm - height 5.67mm

I didnt think it was Howard, I thought those were more rounded at the bottom? I will admit that I didnt check the crank keyway and I should... that is so obvious that I didnt even think to check as I felt it was a different key. hmm... Have a kicked an own goal by asking this lol. Ive built a bunch of these engines, is my memory finally going?! EDITED: This is what I thought the crank key looked like? Im not at home right now so cant check a crank... will be later tho... The one i found looks a lot like the ones used in sprung loaded gears, hmm...

your last post is what I've seen, or you may have just picked up something random at one time or another, or its a home made crank key
the pic looks like its not quite even on the curved section, however tht could be an optical illusion
There isn't one in the kickstart i don't recall one being there though

I just tested it in my crank and its very tight. I reckon you could hammer it home if you wanted, its not a 'nice fit', but it would go in there. I always thought our bikes had them shaped like a ships hull, seems fro what Pete says that maybe that isnt always the case. Live n learn. Quite why it fell out of the transmission is anyones guess :/

Doesn't look like a Pv woodruff key to me ?? 20181220_152127 by dusty miller, on Flickr The Yam key has a punched indent on one side that makes it a tight fit in the groove on the crankshaft - not visible in my pic. Certainly looks like a woodruff key but not standard Pv ? Dusty

As above, does it fit the other end of the crank?

The other end is a solid piece of square bar, so defo not that one.
I think it is probably a key for the rotor, but defo not a YPVS one. Mystery of how it ended up in this transmission tho...

That's the voice actuation module for a MK1 Dalek. Sure of it.
