Since I can't do anything to the rz250r till I get jets I thought I'd clear up the garage a bit Tools and parts everywhere Best way to tidy the parts up... ...bolt them together lol I'd planned this build for some time but was unsure whether I'd start it or punt the parts on ad got the TR750 project looming and another hybrid rolling chassis sitting doing nothing The idea was to build a hybrid but use parts that are either old or old style Started with a 31k f1 UK frame/cases I got last year from bertmollie Modified the stem on fzs600 yokes to fit the ypvs frame. Cut the slot in the stem for the euro style steering lock then modded the ignition mount to get the lock to sit level with the loop and have a working UK style steering lock Fitted risers and lock stops from Spondon440 and fitted renthal ultra low bars. Fzs 600 forks and blue spot calipers Swing arm is 1988 fz600 complete with tie bars and a yss shock Front wheel was built from an sr500 hub with disc spacers to allow alignment of fzs600 discs to the calipers and clear the spokes Rear wheel is built from a tdr250 hub Suppose I better add some pics Mocked up the hub first in the forks to work out if it was all possible. Fazer spindle is 17mm which is the same as the Sr so all good there Steve

Now that the wheels were made I could trial fit and see if the calipers cleared the spokes. They by 1 -2mm only so I had 1.25mm machined off the caliper mounting points to give approx 3mm clearance. I can always take 1mm off the caliper at the edge if I need more. This meant I needed 13mm spacers to space the discs off the hub. I bought some plain spacers but wasn't happy with there not being any inner lip for the disc to centre on. Also the Speedo drive needed to move out 10mm or so to clear the disc bolts so I had bespoke spacers made to replicate the shape of the hub edge allowing a centre lip for the disc to sit on and allow the Speedo drive seal to sit in the spacer Plain and contoured spacer

Had a spacer made to go between the speedo drive and the bearing and also a section to replicate the Speedo drive tab area which I then bonded in

Rear wheel used a 15mm spindle and the swinger was 17mm so made a couple of reducers and recessed the chain pull holes to allow an f2 ypvs spindle to be used. Then it was just new spacers to take up the gap and an fzr400 caliper mount as they use the same size rear disc I'll use an alloy fzr torque arm which fits Swing arm needs reduced 10mm and then used a standard ypvs inner bearing tube. I have the yes shock at full le hth adjustment but this is just giving the standard rides height. I may get a new bottom shock eyelet made to jack it a bit more

Hats off to you Steve, I don't know how you do it Another stunner ! I'm not usually a fan of spokeys, but they look awesome on that build, and really suit it. And a lot of work too, so double awesome !! I go fairly long periods without touching my bikes, but you and Yogi seem to be on them constantly, with each one a 10 out of 10 Triple awesome !! Look forward to seeing the progress Dusty

For example I was fitting an fzr braced arm into another lc2 frame last night. That one may get punted as a project though Steve

Looking good mate ๐ I like spokeys and been thinking of doing one for a while but the right parts havenโt showed up
Same as you Steve Iโve got parts for bikes that are 4th or 5th in the queue and been stashed for ages once Iโve gathered enough Iโll start another build thread ๐
Keep the pics coming ๐ Matt ๐งธ

What are you trying to do to us here Steve? Some of us are struggling to get one bike together and you are turning out yet another top build. As Stusco says, How do you find time for work as well? Another top shelf build mate and I am well jealous. Letโs see which one gets finished first ๐

Hear that Steve. I also do the parts gathering and I restore things like calipers and other sub assys along the way. makes the build up go faster. I only have one lift so have to maximise the time any one project gets to be on it etc.

Stunning, simply stunning... Love the spokes as a homage to the old tz's.. Parts keep a lovely wheelbase aswell.. Even if i had all those part in my garage i still couldn't put them together like that.. I think i would cut off those rear foot pegs at the exhaust mount to expose that rear wheel even further..

Superb Steve , I know how hard it is to work out the neatest way to make it all align up and look like it's off of Yamaha's production line. The wheels and brakes are just brilliant.
You've achieved a factory look - great work
