Nice find Allan, I remember the days when people would say " if you want that bike lad take it now I'm sick of seeing it in my garden" sadly them days have gone because everyone knows what they are worth.
Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site. thanks tomtom, yes, thats true, i guess i got lucky. i was helping my friend diagnose a car fault, we had to pick up a battery charger from his step dads garage on the way to look at the car. as he pulled the garage door up he said 'oh yeah, there's a couple of bikes in here you might be interested in.' it had been in there like that since 2001

Hi Welcome to the forumπ Nice find. Looks pretty good considering it's long hibernation. Whereabouts in Surrey are you ? There are a few of us in the Countyπ Dusty hi dusty, thanks. i'm in the Redhill area. yes, its not bad, it was very dirty from grime and dust as you can see. mechanically, it needed a new rh powervalve and connector piece. its had a full top end rebuild. the previous ownwer had destroyed the exhaust stud thread in the right hand barrel by trying to drill it by hand and helicoil it. i had the damage repaired with an insert at a machine shop. barrels honed at the same time. brakes rebuilt, suspension linkages/bushes, forks rebuilt, new chain and sprockets, tyres etc everything youd expect from that long in storage. all that remains to do is get it up top operating temp, adjust mixture screws and idle speed, thats it really. then its MOT time.

Done a few driving courses around the Redhill area. I'm more familiar with Reigate though. 18 years in hibernation - have you considered changing the crank seals ? They don't like standing unused for that amount of time. Dusty

Dusty i have thought about the crank seals. i kicked it over when i first got it it started 4th kick so i didnt think there was anything wrong with the bottom end. if they blow they blow i guess and ill have to deal with it. in the meantime ill have fun finding out

Welcome Allan. Iβm not too far away in Biggin Hill. My lc sat in my garage for well over 10 years and after a few thousand miles since is still going well. I believe in maintenance but not looking for work Steve

I believe in maintenance but not looking for work Steve hi, yes,if it aint broke dont fix it. I knew i already had a sealed crankcase, i didnt want to disturb it and run the risk of introducing new problems, plus i dont have a leakdown testkit. obviously its a bit of a gamble but seals last a long time generally. i think if old seals are going to go,they will go pretty quickly after being used again so if i do a couple hundred miles on it and still seal, they will probably be ok

Welcome on board.. I'm just up the road in the Nork/Epsom area. Fins on the Holmethorpe estate will give help if needed, they have a few YPVS nuts there..
