Do you think that you drained 99% of it out? Without say removing the tank from the bike and swaying it about etc, there's bound to be a small amount/residue still present. I can imagine that you would see a bit more smoke, hopefully it clears soon and you have got away with it.

Yes petrol in diesels can be worse! I recon it will be fine just take it easy for a tank of fuel.

Is it not the other way round it causes more damage? Jon Even more so on the old mechanical injection engines The diesel lubricated the pump so used to eat themselves with neat petrol Steve

Petrol is a pretty good cleaner at the end of the day.

I filled a honda dominator half full with diesel once , it ran the 15 miles home ok while hot , but it was hard to start the next day , rode it a mile up the road it seemed a bit flat , got off walked behind and smelt diesel , went home drained the tank , put a gallon of petrol in started it up rode to garage filled it up . no problems to this day , 10 years ago my mate put petrol in his diesel landy , he got home before realising it , but landy was sounding a bit sick , drained it off, put fresh diesel in started up and is still running to this day , gave diesel/petrol mix to a farmer he used it up in his old tractor gradually

Many years ago I filled a petrol generator with diesel...it ran like shit, but ran anyway. After changing the fuel it was good as gold. Earlier this year I filled my Nissan Navara diesel with petrol, and it stopped within minutes. I drained and purged it, but it was never quite right again. Had to trade the b*****d in!

Talking of running stuff on wrong fuel
Years ago (still at school) a mate had an mt5. Absolutely no fuel in it and bored we took a camping gas cylinder and connected the hose to the vent spigot on the fuel cap.
Turned on the gas, pulled out the choke and kickstarted it
It only went and fired up to our amazement
Pity it would only idle, any throttle and it died on its 4rse

We had an '08 plate Vito recovered in last week, bloke had put 5 litres of Adblue in the diesel tank and ran it till it cut out. All we could do was drain the tank (we have the proper kit), replace the fuel filter, put in £20 of fresh diesel and hope for the best. Not a chance in hell. Gave it a couple of tries but then gave up completely. One of our guys cracked off an injector pipe and it was like milk coming out. Apparently this stuff crystallises and coats everything inside the fuel system. Only fix is to replace the entire system - tank, lines, pump and injectors which on an '08 Vito with 160k on the clock was way more than it was worth.
I did explain this to the guy but I'm sure he thought we were trying it on as he had it further recovered to another garage!
