Hi, I'm starting to look for an import or non matching UK bike that I can ride straight away.
Being an RD400 owner i know the crazy prices that people try on and i know what they are worth.
Whats' a sensible price for a tidy non matching bike or import 350LC?
I've see this on ebay 153581645348 what do you reckon?
Cheers,Ross

For an RD400 with a years ticket but one that will need some tidying up about £4K is a good starting point. They seem to be fetching the same prices as 350LCs now which indicates that LC prices are going up a tad.

There are no sensible prices anymore, just go with what you can afford.

I agree, circa 4k +/- would be about right. As said, take any work done with a pinch of salt, especially as the current owner didn't do the engine rebuild. It may be spot on, but then again... It's a 4l1 engine and frame (250), so must have had a 350 top end fitted, so you'll want to know it's got the oil pump and carbs jetted to suit. Receipts for the engine work should be present ideally - if it's been rebuilt with Yambits seals be wary !! No mention of tank condition ? The originals rot out, but good copy tanks are now available, but a tank and respray will cost a fair chunk of cash, so factor that in. An airbox is preferable to filters, so if you wanted to fit one a good used box makes 50-60 quid on ebay nowadays I think it essential to view a bike you expect to ride straight away, so if you live relatively near, that is a big bonus. Buying a basket case project that you know will have issues is a very different prospect of course. Good luck Dusty

Originality, now that's a word isn't it.
It does make me laugh, any vehicle is technically only original once isn't it, when it leaves the showroom.

Norbo does very good replacement rear mud guards for £65. Uncut number plate brackets are harder to come by, uncut ones been selling on eBay for £120-150. I think the rear sub-frame is ok looking at the picture, but if not, they come up on eBay for £110-130. So yes reversible.

The Facebook one looks nice but at £5k I'd have thought you could pic up a matching one that's presentable.
Few things concern me with it
1.75 o/s ain't too bad but it's getting there. They can go to 2.5 but above 2 you can have problems.
The paint. New paint done correctly should not have flaws.
In saying that the arm and pipes are £1300 to buy. But remember the pipes hurt it's value, good standard pipes are expensive and rare.
May be worth an offer mind
Steve

Yikes! Erm.. how much is shipping from west coast of Canada to the UK ? Happily sell on My 81 LC 350, I'm 3rd owner, matching numbers, original paintwork, a bit chipped. Not nearly enough to warrant a repaint though. Matching numbers LC lump is in a box, needing a crank redo and pistons, albeit I have 2 sets of spare cyls, on 1st and 2nd overbores respectively. Currently fitted Iua with Mild professional (scrracing) portings and pretty well.. all.. the tweaks worth doing... on 2nd overbore (31K :- barrels by choice) with fresh Yama pistons/rings. WOT from 3000 rpms to revlimiter sans a single burble... ever. UK prices being ~ 3X what I could realistically sell it on for.. Here. It's a possibilty I'm considering

Do customs charge VAT on a bike privately sold to UK? I know when ive bought goods from the states it's 6% customs plus 20% VAT plus shipping.

If the bike is over 30 years old - I'm pretty sure tax is 5% but there's no VAT. I just shipped a pallet containing a full set of NOS RG500 panels from Long Island to Felixstowe and it cost £135. Tax bill upon arrival was £55 and there was no VAT due to the age of the panels.
