Nah, got scarier sh1t in the garage
It's the stuff that you don't even know it's on you till it eats all th calcium out your bones you have to worry about - yup got that.
Just don't tell the environment agency 😏
In all seriousness use PPE guys
Strong oven cleaners are caustic soda based so extremely alkaline
Also as the are meant to cling to surfaces it is more difficult to rinse off

Read instructions before use................
The old oven pads were brill at cleaning sign writing off vans...then they banned them...same as nitromors. And fairy power spray is now u/s thanks to the domestic product police (EU division)That was also good for removing sign paint and rattle can. Something doesn't sound right with that story...big compo claim coming.....not a pea sized one?
Oh ...and a big heads up, will put it on order, sounds useful....till "they" ban this f**ker as well....

Quite surprised it hasn't been removed from sale before now but oven cleaner is going to be hazardous
I work for a commercial cleaning chemical company so always can get good stuff.
Anybody got a pic of the bottle? The warning stuff we have to put on products by law so wonder if it's the same
If it has a corrosive warning symbol on it she hasn't got a leg to stand on
As for nitromors it's strange that they banned dicloromethane in it but you can still buy the chemical on eBay

It really puzzles me why oven cleaner is made with NaOH, NaOH boiled together with animal fat makes what we commonly call soap, its a process that take quite a few hoours The soap made is a solid, so is hard to remove from the oven surface KOH or Potassium Hydroxide and fat boiled together make liquid soap, much easier to remove, its still caustic though What has been found that the greatest danger in using the spray on cans is that most people don’t figure out that the nozzle is facing them and not the stove when they press it gotcha right on the face and eyes Once in the eyes it takes only a couple of minutes to do irreparable damge The literally have to force the persons eyelids apart to flush them, they clamp shut with the pain steve, I know which product you talk about, people die a horrible painful death with that stuff, you please be very careful handling it especially if it is over 10% strength make sure you have the antidote and if gets on you get yourself to hospital real quick Howard

...if its sodium hydroxide it will be good for de-cokeing spannies. Im sure I have seen that oven cleaner in the pound shop, I,ll need to get some before it dissapears. Here is my lengthy post from what I thought was a couple of years ago, regarding cleaning out spannies with sodium hydroxide. When I searched for the thread, to post it here, it wasnt 2 years ago, it was 5 years ago, almost to the day. Doesnt time fly ! Steven. rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/27552/spannies-de-coke

Now don’t get me wrong, I know there are loads of dodgy chemicals out there; but handled properly, they are fine.
Take asbestos for example. Sure some people who were exposed to it day in day out developed serious/terminal problems. But what about those that came into contact with it once in a blue moon fitting a gasket without disturbing it, or changing the odd brake shoe?
The nanny state has religiously tried to ban anything that MIGHT cause harm if misused or overused by even the casual user.
Consider this, is it illegal to remove asbestos if qualified to do so? No it’s not, because they know how to do it safely day in day out.
It’s purely to stop the unknowing Joe public injuring themselves though lack of knowledge or care.
Those who research what they are using, risk assess the use; and use the correct PPE; dispose of environmentally are not able to do so these days because it’s banned.
Nitromors is another example. Joe Blogs could buy decent stuff from their local DIY store. Until probably some lawsuit forced them to change the formulation. Good stuff can still be bought online but it is plastered with so many warnings Joe Bloggs would be scared off instead of their trust in their local DIY store.
Now I realise this sounds like some kind of rant, but other people’s naivety, and the modern lawsuit have affected me personally because you can’t easily get hold of stuff you used to be able to do so.
Jon
