Just negotiating to buy a bike 500 miles away, was going to get a motorcycle courier to collect.
What's the best and safest way to pay the seller (private) to protect myself
Thanks

Probably best to find a trustworthy courier and give them the cash, so you at least get a bike. You can always get them to check it is fine before releasing the cash.

Or maybe pay cash into their account once your courier has verified the bike is okay and can be collected. Then the buyer can ring their bank to confirm funds are in.

Depends on the value
Large value item then find a courier who will pay for you
Up to 2 grand I would take the hit and ask for the seller to send you a PayPal invoice and you pay the fees
Have done this before (was only £500) and the robbing B4ST4RD went quiete on me
PayPal refunded me

Mike( kopite30 here) aka Motomovers has inspected and paid for peoples bikes before taking them away...thinks he’s taken them off for an MOT on occasion too.
On the understanding that if you dont like the bike, you still pay for the “collection” of course..
Give him a bell..

Is there a forum member nearby that could take a look for you ? May give you a better idea of condition. Dusty

Good point.
Buying unseen can be a minefield.

If I have any doubt and it's high value I always take the trouble of going to see it myself and usually borrow or hire a van. On a few occasions I've taken the train and ridden it back.

I bought my RD400 unseen from Northern Ireland, looked great! But on the other hand bought some great bikes unseen, it's a punt. Speaking as someone who's probably venturing that way again, i'd say talk to the buyer, a long phone call can be reassuring.

I have used my trusted courier ,got him to look it over then if he is happy with it then transfer money into sellers account usually transfers in minutes rather than hours 👍👍

Guy who bought my 350N last week sent a bank transfer for the full amount after two longish phone calls. He didn't have my address so had no idea where I lived. Courier picked the bike up on Tuesday but he won't see it himself until next Monday as he is away on holiday.

My TZR arrived safe and sound Wednesday. A nice untouched 30 year old bike, let the project begin.
