Anybody repaired one on closed stairs?
I am thinking of cutting a hole in the ceiling to get access from underneath and then fit some major reinforcements...

Drywall/plaster is waay easier to repair than the other options. Was a finish carpenter for 30yrs and built/repaired many winder stairs in my day. Wife wants me to fix our own, but I know how much work it is and can't be bothered ... "too busy working on shit old motorcycles, Hun!"

Went in from underneath and found that one side had pretty much no support! No wonder it was moving and ended up split even though it was 1 inch thick! I have reinforced it from underneath with some 38mm battens with side bracing bolted into the brickwork on the side with little support. Will post pics later, but not moving now! :-)
