Here's a question for you chaps, what does an insurance company do if you happen to ride over the agreed mileage during a year?
Last time I renewed they asked for the current mileage, the bike needs it's MOT at the same time too so there is no point in me not telling them the truth.
The policy states 1000 miles, I'm covered over 700 miles already and still the Summer/Autumn months to go,....guess that I'm just enjoying riding this bike too much.

I'm sure they would try and wriggle out of it
Just buy a cheap gps Speedo to attach to the bars then disconnect the cable 😉

Talking to a classic car owner this morning, he mentioned 3000 miles is the limit on his. I'd be happy with 2k, I doubt that I'll ever reach that.

I’m with Peter James to insure my 4 classic bikes and they’re all on unlimited mileage. I thought the price was very reasonable. I initially was going to go through FootmanJames but was advised by more knowledgeable people to use Peter James. I once asked my insurance company about going over the agreed mileage and was told it’s not an issue as long as it’s not excessive? Insurance companies have to abide to certain rules and be reasonable with us-their clients.

Thanks for that, I'm with Peter James too, just looked at their website and see that the quick quote section states 1500 miles,....just checked my documents and that states the same too so I can relax now, not sure where I got the 1000 from now, maybe that were the first year I went with them?? It looks like you can renew online with them now too, I don't remember that being an option last time I looked either.

You could always contact the insurance company to ask...you wont be the first or last to be in the same situation..I would imagine they will up the mileage for a little extra ££... I would do what Steve has suggested!

Peter James unlimited mileage fully comp all mods declared agreed prices and European breakdown recovery back to the uk. 1992 ZZR 1100, 1992 KH100, 1981 RD350LC, 1979 XT500. £130. All my vintage/classic bike mates also use Peter James.

Going by their quick online quotation system, one bike that's worth no more than 5k gives a figure of just under the £100 mark.

Initially I looked at their site and thought this’ll take ages to sort out what with all the questions which some I thought were ambiguous. So I rang them up and said I have some bikes I might want to insure with you. First was the ZZR and that was £87. Then I added the xt and lc and it went up to £130. The next day I rang back and said how much extra to add the kh and they said nothing. So I added it.

I ain’t got a clue how insurance companies work their pricing out. I do ring around a lot and tell them that I have got X quote from elsewhere and what can you do? Back in January I got my 19 year old son insured on a mk5 golf gti fully comp for £597.

I think you just have to spend some time looking and not accept the renewal because it’s easy.

You can only drive one at a time and the agreed mileage is on all the bikes added up
