been out in 350lc tonight its never been brill low and mid range but its got worse ?anything over 7k its great pulls as should, anything below this its not good sometimes it even misses/fourstrokes sort of between 3-4grand .ultra sonic cleaned carbs last week but have not done the 'brass balls ' would it run this bad with these blocked?or could it be a cdi issue even though its fine over 7 grand?checked plugs they are medium brown 'degestive'in colour any ideas folks?

You need behind your balls cleaned I'm afraid
It will cause all sorts of running issues

Could be a few things, but do the simple things first, change plugs, check carb balance, make sure you have fresh petrol, no obvious air leaks, clear fuel pipes etc. Then I would definitely clean behind the balls. Its not a big job, but often gives huge improvement.

When you ultrasonic cleaned the carbs, did you full strip and clean all the parts and bodies, then re-assembly, or did you put the carb into the cleaner complete?

Removed bowls and main jet tubes Shaun but I suspect it is the brass balls it did seem to run better for about 50mile after ultra sonic clean but now it's worse than ever. didn't think I was going to get back from pub last nite lol !

sounds like low side coils or pickup is breaking down, check your stator

sounds like low side coils or pickup is breaking down, check your stator Thanks mutts got a feeling this could be electrical based but will eliminate carbs first

This was posted by Muttsnuts on another thread. Wish I had a pound for everytime I've answered this !! - I'd have made at least 50 quid ! The readings are; Pickup coil (white/Red to black wire - 87 ohms +/- 10% at 20c Low speed windings - 271 ohms +/- 10% at 20c High Speed windings - 5.1 ohms +/- 10% at 20c The wires can be found under the seat, they are in a block connector and go from your stator to the cdi

Great news. Always worth checking the plugs.

Definitely not in my nature to be negative. And I hope your bike is sorted. But when my misfire started I eventually changed everything over a 6 month period. Countless plugs and caps. CDI. Coils. Stator rewound. Brass balls out twice. Each time I did something the problem disappeared and I thought problem sorted and then it would reappear again. I suspect now the stator rewind was maybe suspect even though it always read ok with a meter? Power dynamo seems to have finally sorted it. Good luck Steve

Yes Steve I think it's sorted but I'm not counting my chickens just yet!been down this road before time will tell. May end getting new stator kit anyway?

Ok tried bike again yesterday same as before poping and missing, did the brass balls yesterday and they were all clear and good no change !so it's looking like stator still.going to bite the bullet and get a new ignition kit off norbo

before you do that, check that your pickup is tight, they do get a little loose, you will need a decent screw driver (JIS ideally) and try and tighten the screw that holds the pickup onto the stator plate

Quick update definitely missing on left pot not both would this still point to stator or could it be coil/coil lead??

That’s exactly how my bike was behaving when it started to misfire. Left pot only. Odd as both plugs fire together although the lc does have an unusual system whereby the spark fires normally on one side but the opposite on the other. I didn’t believe it at first until I did some research. You can try swapping plugs leads caps etc and you might be lucky. Have you checked your high and low readings on your stator? Not just the pick up. Mine always checked out ok but still misfired.

Well Steve tried another coil and does seem to be running a lot better did about 80mile yesterday and it's the best it's ever run ! So fingers crossed it's cured it

Sonnds much like mine went Liffy, with a gradual deterioration in performance, in the end it started back firing.
By that time id wasted a whole Summer pissing around trying to fix it and wasted money with a local auto electrician , the powerdynamo is the way to go , you can sell on your old OE items on and get most of the cost of the kit back.
Certainly you wont end up paying any more for it than a stator rewind...

Hi copper well the powerdynamo was going to be the next step but I had a coil which came with my current project so I thought I'd just try it ! Didn't have much hope in it curing it but it just proves that you cannot discount anything when it comes to electriktry
