Well, this is a new thread i'd didn't think i would be starting, slowly getting the running gear sorted for a hybrid i was building and a good frame came up on ebay cheap with a V5, so rather than mess about with nova etc on my RZ frame, thought it will be easier to get this one. Went to the guys house and the frame is good, in his shit tip of a garage i spot a very dusty 31k... Apparently the guy has had it for 19 years, been off the road for the last 10, he's just moved in with a new woman and she was morning about the old bike bits everywhere, my ears pricked up and i made a (very) silly offer and the bike, he said if he was gonna sell, all the bits had to go as well, couldn't really see what there was due to the crap everywhere but ok, so the deal was done. So hired a van the have now got a full garage ! P1020797 P1020794 P1020796 P1020795

Funny thing was, my mate came down with me and he mentioned he was restoring a FZR RU exup, as if by magic, the guys appears from his loft with a petrol tank, full fairing and a set of carbs for a RU, which got throw into the deal, made my mate's day as well !!

I agree, great result You can build yourself a nice bike and probably recoup a fair amount of cash from what's left over. They are lovely bikes, the Lc2's, and you'll have a great time renovating that Enjoy, and post lots of pics. Dusty

Got round to cleaning up the bike, the frame was powder coated a while ago and a new loom was fitted so that all looks ok, the swing arm need paint, as does the tank and front guard as he painted them in aerosol, dunno whether to paint the guard the original red again or stay with white ... Wheels should come up ok with some more polishing Obviously the brakes need a service and ive got new tyres, Avon roadriders, but ive fooked up and order a 90 profile rear, dunno if i should send it back and get a 80 ?? The engine has had the barrels off for 10 years, apparantly the crank has only done 30 miles and when i dropped the gearbox oil it was like new so that would tie in, i've just filled the crank with oil for now, going to strip the motor and put new seals in and give it a general once over, the top crankcase neeeds painting, i was just going to do it black engine enamel along with the barrels, the pistons are .75 and the head is mint so thats good. Thinking new seals for the PV's, do they go hard with age? There's a cheap noxo shock in the back, ive got a R6 on the shelf so thinking of using that, save spunking out £250 for a YSS... The fork chrome is abit pitted, i've wet N dry the right leg and thats come up ok, the left one has a couple of pits that ive filled with chemical metal, going to sand down and see how i go, im trying to get it on the road before the end of summer then maybe get the legs rechromed over winter The guy hasn't found the keys yet in his mountain of stuff in the garage, says he will but im working on needing a new lock set, if he finds them, thats a bonus P1020812 P1020811P1020814P1020815P1020818P1020819P1020816 P1020820 P1020821P1020817 P1020813

So, on to the wheels... First sanded the polished bits with a DA sander to get the old peeling lacquer off, then by hand with 240 then 400 disk before rubbing with scotchbrite. Next masked off the polished bits and sprayed the rest of the wheel black, before demasking and painting the whole wheel with proper etch gloss lacquer. Took more hours than i care to think about, not 100% perfect but good enough for me Gonna give it a few days before getting the new Avon roadriders fitted... P1020834 P1020833 P1020832
