Hi,
I recently got one of the cheap £10 or so endoscopes from ebay.
I tried it on my phone, tablet, win10 laptop and win7 laptop, the only thing it would work on was my old win 7 laptop.
My LC has been on the road for 5 years now, this year will be its 6th year on the road.
And Im totaly embarresed to say, I have only done about 1500 miles or so on it in those 5 years ! (I,ll get my jacket !)
Of those 1500 or so miles in 5 years, ALL miles have been done in the dry, it has never been out in the rain, and lives in the garage in the summer and the house in the winter.
When I restored it 5 years ago, it had all the usual stuff, to include a crank and rebore/pistons done by Paul at PJME.
It has YPVS pistons in it ( we all know the YPVS/LC piston saga) and the tangs were left on the YPVS pistons, as reccomended by Paul at PJME.
It has an Athena head gasket, which brought my squish band nearer to what it should be, than if I had used a Genuine head gasket.
I have the readings written down from when I checked/adjusted my squish band.
My squish band is not at optimum, but it is a lot nearer to what it should be, than when it left the factory.
I have it deliberately set to run rich/safe with 240 main jets.
I have early type barrels, with later type carbs, standard airbox with snorkel still fitted, standard ignition timing.
It runs on premix, and has always had Super-unleaded in it.
It starts and goes great, it doesnt have the flat spot, Iv never had the carbs off it since I initialy fitted them.
It has new standard reed petals, that all quack/rasp/seal properly.
Appart from basic serviceing, plugs, and g/box oil Iv hardly done a thing to it.Its given me no problems at all, and apart from cleaning it and polishing it and adjusting the chain etc, Iv hardly done a thing to it.
The exhaust gaskets require maintaining approx every 200 miles or so, unless you want black gloopy 2 stroke oil all over Elsie,s chin !
Perhaps its my non tie bar frame/engine that causes that, My 4L0 is from 1980 vintage.
On inspection with the endoscope, I found no horrors or anything too sinister, both cylinders looked to be in the same condition.
The worst thing I found was some light vertical scoring above the inlet port on both cylinders, nothing too bad, as the cross hatching from the honeing process can still be seen. Im wondering if that light vertical scoring may have been from when it was initialy run in ?
It had several heat cycles and was run in for 500-600 miles.
The main thing that can be seen from the pictures is that it is a fair bit rich and sooty, but thats how I have it jetted, and I often drive it like an old woman, which cant help much either.
The copmression pressures still show that my cylinders are making nearer 130 psi than 120 psi.
The next time I have the exhausts off, I will have a look at the underside of the pistons etc.
I know there not great pictures with my £10 borescope, but I would appreciate any thoughts that those in the know may have, especialy reagarding the light vertical scoring above the inlet ports.
Thanks in advance,
Please dont throw me off the forum for only doing 1500 miles on it in 5 years, or for having it jetted like a big girls blouse !
