For those of you that have owned one since the 80's, my question is how/why?
Did you guys not want to move up to a larger capacity 4 stroke? Maybe you were pretty well off so could own/run two bikes back then??

Maybe you were pretty well off so could own/run two bikes back then?? Good point! My original LC was just a stepping stone to getting a bigger faster bike. I always had to sell or p/ex my bike to move on to the next, as my mates did. There were so many exciting bikes about in the 80s and 90s I could not be faithful to just one.

Exactly, you are not alone, I thought that we all basically did that, the goal were to work up to a GSXR1100, EXUP1000 or whatever bike were king of the hill at the time.

Bought brand new 31k on 1st August 1984 which was my 19th Birthday and the day I completed by Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship. Bought from Mead and Tomkinson Motorcycles in Gloucester for £1690 cash. Do not have the complete bike anymore only the engine which I built into a Yamagamma before it was 3 years old and still have it now although it has not been on the road for some 16 years probably and needs a complete rebuild. What an investment that would have been if I'd listened to my dad and quote "not ruined 2 completely good bikes". Youths.

That sounds like a brave thing to have done to what were still a brand new bike back then,....if it had been second hand/wrecked, that would have been acceptable shall we say.

Bought my first 4L0 in 1983 to go racing with. Still got that one and it’s stuck with me through thick and thin. Met my wife in 1984....when I’m feeling brave I occasionally remind her of that !

Sold mine in 1987 for £500 to get a GPZ550 unitrak, the LC was just a step up from my air cooled RD's, sold the GPZ 12 months later for a RD500, sold that to get a FZ750 so i could get to the Bol D'or in 1990, just a never ending circle

My Mrs loves to point out that I never sell a bike I like followed by a rolling of eyes
this is my lot taken 3 years ago now.
Plus the LC I'm rebuilding and the TZR in the loft
Never had a car or kids, so spent my money on more important things.

My longest owned bike is my LC. Bought it in 1999 for £125 as a basket case. Ben through a lot with it since. I'm very close to completing a restoration on it but need my health to improve so I can get in the garage. I miss my 2stroke fix!

Close relation to the a7 then. I'm always surprised how smooth it runs. Certainly a lot smoother than my C25 Barracuda! You've got some nice rides there.

Not me, I do remember seeing a couple of years ago what I think was either a Mark 1 or 2 Yamagamma in standard colours flying around Gloucester mine is a Mk3 and currently painted in Marlboro colours.

Bought my first 4L0 in 1983 when I was still 16. It was in the local paper, W reg, white/blue, 150 quid, the catch was the owner had stripped it to paint the frame a different colour and lost interest. As I only had my AP50 for transport, I pushed it home in a wheel barrow (about 2 miles), I must have really wanted one!!. Anyway it was all there but in kit form, I reassembled it, got it running and promptly sold it on for 450 quid. Hence the line ‘I left school with f**k all, and I’ve still got most of it left’ !! 🤣

Yes was either brave or stupid looking back probably stupid. Trouble is Performance Bikes did an article on Stan Stephens Yamagamma and that was the trigger. My response to Dad at the time you built a Triton back when you were younger what's the difference. Had to build it in a mates shed as Dad refused to let me use his garage. Sold all surplus bits from both bikes pretty quickly so recouped a reasonable bit of money but still a costly exercise even back then. Insurance was easy back in the day just insured on a Norwich Union rider policy no questions, no photographs dead easy.

Brilliant if you had a few bikes or changed often
