6.5k is top end as far as I'm concerned
Would think you could get a "nice" one for nearer £5k

Pretty sure there wasn’t Allen bolts as exhaust studs Seeing as it’s described as being built by a very rich man I’d expect better for the money

Tie bar mounts on frame but not on motor, strange as the description states matching numbers

Yes yamman that bike. Well I'm glad I asked on here. Not knowing the bikes would have never noticed the tank decal. As for the Allen screw I should have noticed that!

Not much attention to detail with one Allen bolts and 1 hex bolt instead of the studs
As said a 1980 frame should not have tie bar mounts on the frame

Might be the photo angle but left cylinder does not appear to be marked with a 1 but right hand does. Could have one early and one later model cylinders.

Maybe the ‘spare engine’ with the case damage, mentioned in the listing, is the one that matches the frame?

So it’s a decent enough bike that has obviously had some cash spent on it. The passivate green is paint not passivate it’s missing a few little bits eg oil line guides, tray under the seat, hlamp adjustment brkt, cable guide, the wheel spokes have lost machined finish one barrel has Allen bolts holding the exhaust not studs. The frame is bizarrely a later one with tie bars but the cases aren’t yet the numbers do match. Probably a good basis. The seller is a genuine bloke and is open to offers I have told him it isn’t worth £6.5k and told him a more realistic price I have also told him to sell the spare motor separately the motor is a repaired (well) chain case. 4lo but barrels are at +2. Cases are tie bar.

The thing that makes me concerned is what other corners have been cut? I have a bike that's had a full nut and bolt refurb, the bloke that did it is so persnickety he did my head in, I told him I wasn't bothered about it being exactly as it left the factory but he insisted (even though I was paying the bill ). There are little bits that no one will ever see but he insisted that he was either doing it properly or not at all, and everything was either NOS or completely refurbed, every single bolt and bracket, even the internals on the seat catch were replated and done, then put back together....so it cost me an arm and a leg but it's absolutely bob on, inside the engine as well. Not many people go to this sort of depth, so some of these refurbed bikes look shiny on the outside but underneath it's not perfect - this one isn't perfect on the outside, so what corners have been cut in places that you can't see? If it's priced accordingly then fair enough, but this guy seems to want top dollar.

Thanks to everyone's imput on this. I'm in two minds now. Think the best thing to do is hang out for the right bike, it will turn up if it's ment to.
