Hi guys cut along story short brought a rd a month ago it had recently had a full engine rebuild. first time I rode it oil was leaking from the clutch pushrod & seal. Changed the grooved clutch push rod. Second ride still leaking whilst changing the pushrod oil seal I noticed that it had a crack in it looked like it was about to break see pic. I installed a new oring and crossed my fingers hoping the new oil seal may seal it up 3rd ride around the block to test leaking worse. I put a post on the FB page and spoke to Norbo a cheaper fix would be to jb weld it, was a bodge but I’ve only owned it two weeks had nothing but headaches and was not really ready to throw big cash at it to get it done. So pulled the oil seal out again to look into jb welding it and the crack has got worse and broken off. I now have a nice hole in the crank case. I’ve emailed the person who I brought the bike from hoping that they may feel inclined to help out as I’ve had this issues from the beginning. I’m no good with bottom ends engine bottom ends that is. I’m looking for someone that can drop the bike off to, strip the engine get the part welded & machined and rebuild & install. My first guess was muts mutts but obviously with his recent injury & recovery it’s not the best time tried AJ’s & mick abbey no good so does anyone know anyone else that can help me out? random 4 number generator

Might be easier to get a set of good cases? It's not too hard to strip the engine if you follow the manual.

That needs opened up I'm afraid
That crack may go right through the bearing surface for the gearbox shaft.
Especially as it seems unstable
I would not be riding it, a locked gearbox is lethal

The quicker option would be to just get another set of cases. Get a genuine head gasket and a pattern gasket set, new crank seals, main end bearings and little end bearings. Follow the manual and you can do it in a day. As your going to have it all apart then you may as well fit the new bearings and seals so you know they are good.
Where about's are you.

you will need to replace both so you have a matching set

Yes, better to replace the crank cases as a pair, as they are machined as a pair.

Make sure you get the later type casings with the tie bar mounts underneath.

Dave Reynolds in Dudley can do the engine removal/repair/replace/rebuild. I will PM you his details. He is a courier during the day, so can collect if required.

Hi, is it a matching number bike ? (engine to frame) if so may be worth repairing . If it isn't and it was mine I would find a replacement set .

I would be able to do it but apart from being laid up at the moment, when I do get back to it I've got worked booked in that takes me towards the back end of the year, so fitting it in would be difficult.
You also need to replace the crank cases as a matching pair, if your going to the trouble of stripping the engine that far to fix, it is foolish not to and would no doubt end up costing you to do the job twice if they leaked, or had crankcase failure you'd be mightly pee'd off I am sure

Yes I’ve been thinking the same Dave, I have a matching pair of crank cases sorted out for it now.

T&L Engineering Bedford, would weld / mill and test the clearances for you, no problem. As above, it really isn't difficult to strip down the bottom end and rebuild. I did my first LC bottom end over the winter, nothing difficult really. Just use a guide and label everything properly. If you get stuck, plenty on here can help
