I use Castrol Power 1 Dusty Same here, it's good oil plus it's got a spout so it means I can use it in the TDR as well (anyone with a TDR will know what I mean).

Isn't 747 the castor based oil like good old Castrol R. I'm pretty sure this can't be used in pumped systems but I guess it could be used as premix. I also think it has a temp range which doesn't go very low, although you probably dont ride it in the winter. Look up the details on the Castrol website, it tells you all you ned to know. It does smell lovely, I wish I lived near you, takes me back to my old MX days with the bikes running Castrol R

+1 for castrol power 1. Wouldn’t use 747 in road conditions even if pre mix as it’s designed for race purposes when your stripping your engine all the time. Gunks stuff up pv’s Etc

A747 is a really good oil. I run my 3 tuned hybrids on it,they are all used regularly and ridden hard/fast. The smell is just like castrol R. I’ve never had a problem with it,done 7,000 hard miles on one of them and there is no carbon build up at all, even the power valves are clean. There is no blow by on pistons and the honing marks are still visible on barrels. But it is expensive (but engine rebuilds are more expensive!!) and should only be used as premix(but I prefer the simplicity and reassurance of premix)👍

A747 runs really clean! If you use the bike! Castrol R is a very dirty burning oil! Ran my off road bike (green Laning)on it for a bit. After only a 1,000 miles the piston crown/head was thick with carbon and it got really noisy as the perforations in silencer blocked up. Changed to A747 now and all good(Tank/carb needs complete draining and I also washed out crankcases with petrol) because R will form a sludge if mixed with other oils.

I met a bloke on a rideout who said he'd been using Castrol R in his pre-mix system on his 350LC for over 10yrs and never had an issue.
I use Castorene or Castrol R in my classic bikes and I never have an issue with deposits or gumming up. Haven't tried it in my LC.

I also use a747,through a pump and never had a problem. But it is on 40yr old commuting bike,Suzuki gp100,and that’s just gone around the clock!!!!! 100,120 miles!!!! In 40yrs,so just proves it can be used through pump and on a slower revving bike and still run clean👍But it be your choice.

so can i mix the oils or not? Back in the day I would stop at whatever garage I came across when the 2T oil light came on, and I'd buy whatever was on the shelf and pour it in, two stroke oil was two stoke oil to me, it just mixed in with whatever else was in there. Never had an issue. I've mixed castor oil and mineral oil, it did go a bit swirly and didn't mix well but it did the job. I probably wouldn't recommend it but I never has problems. You main concern is if you're not getting any 2T oil into the mix and that will end up with a seizure quite quickly - it's 99% the delivery system that fails, not the type of oil.

...and then there is the debate about pump or premix...
I prefer premix...less to go wrong.

i use maxima castor 927 in my cr500 a bit expensive at £18 a litre but as it runs 50:1 not that bad , might try it on hybrid some time as that's premix too, and its bio-degradable if your in to tree hugging mart

50:1 are you High? I'm running Motul at ~ 20:1 for years and Happy with it. No prizes given for seeing how little oil you can squeeze by on. As Oil remains as Wayyy ! cheaper than cyls / pistons. Or the religious experience of an engine lockup..

When I was racing 2t scramblers, those things take a fair bit of maintenance and its noticable the difference in 2t oils. Bike was fitted with an hour meter so piston changes took place after a set time. When running on Motorex 2t - during a piston change, there was absolute zero carbon build up on the piston crown and combustion chamber. Some other brands would leave approx 1mm of baked on carbon that would require scraping and cleaning out. But wear wise - there was very little difference.
