That's bound to have an affect on businesses in the long term, London is one of the richest cities so most will probably survive but other councils/areas would be mad to bring such a charge in.

Yes,
i commute most days on a 2006 Hornet and yet i have to pay the same, the same as say, a 30 year old diesel car! Really, is my bike as dirty?? It is utterly ridiculous.
Clearly TFL have done no research and it is just another tax. We still have diesel buses, taxis, electric trains (since when has producing electricity been green) battery cars, a joke, try and disposing of a battery when it's dead!
I am self employed and this is just another cost. They wrote to me three times (waste of paper) explaining my options, they are:
1. Use public transport..........Unreliable, expensive, over crowded 2. Walk/cycle.........................48 miles a day! 3. Buy a newer bike..............Spend several thousand to see it get scratched, stolen
Why do they not encourage motorcycles, No congestion, minimal pollution, oh yes, minimal earnings for TFL!

I went to Camden last Monday with a girl I know. Had no idea how to pay the congestion charge. Asked in a shop and they had no idea. Went online and got confusing information. I did manage to park for free in the Morrison's there (for 2 hours). Drove out and then back in and got another 2 hours lol. Filled up there and was surprised that it was cheaper than where I live. 20mph speed limits everywhere. Got home assuming I would get a bill through the post or something but no. I got fined. So one day there cost me £24 in charges, £20 in fuel just in London itself (the traffic is horrendous) almost knocked over half a dozen pedestrians as none of them seem to look before they step out into the road. If we had taken a train the cost for both of us would have been £26. Next time that's what we'll use!

I could sell, but i bought the bike fairly cheaply for the sole purpose of commuting about two years ago. It is a bit scruffy and i needed to fix a couple of bits on it. I have spent money on it, sorted everything and it goes really well, so i am loathed to sell it. I didnt see this coming!! Mouse

I only spend about £28 a week in petrol, but now it is another £62.50 a week, still cheaper than the train though! Mouse

Mouse The year isn't set in stone,....you could take your bike to a company who would actually test it, if the figures add up and it's emissions are at the required figure, you can get the bike officially approved.

The company I work for has a diesel only policy too
They think they are being green by setting a decreasing emission limit
Good in theory but not in practice
The nice powerful 2 litre cars we ran about in were probably not far off the official figures as were grunty enough to short shift around at decent pace
The new 1.6 diesels are less powerful so get the crap kicked out them. Imagine what that does to the actual figures

Yup, most bikes from 2003 onwards are compliant. I got my 2002 SP2 and 2005 Duke marked exempt. Perfect

have a butchers on the inside of your v5. on post 2001 log books? it should have the no2 emission. if its less than 0.15? you`ll be exempt. you have to inform tfl though

Thanks guys
had a look at my V5 and there is nothing at all against the emissions bit.
I will have a word with my MOT tester and also call Honda UK to see if they can help

No, Honda will issue a CoC document foc, upload that to tfl and you're done.

No, Honda will issue a CoC document foc, upload that to tfl and you're done. this is correct. although it didnt work for me as my bike is 1997. honda said to me when i asked for a CoC they didnt start measureing emmisions before 2001 as they werent required to. tfl have a registered place by the olympic park to check no2 levels. if it passes they upload straight to tfl. its £175 pass or fail i personally dont see why we cant go to a car mot place and get an exhaust reading there, assuming they check for no2 on cars?

Oh, I though there were after NOx levels, which aren't measured by MOT stations? Or at least not to the standard required.

For Suzuki's, you need to download, fill in and return as request form, and they'll have £95 off you for the pleasure Still cheap I supposed if it's going to save you £12.50 a day

So apparently Riverside motorcycles in East London are appointed to test bikes for NOx, by TFL. I guess there are two chances of this, but I might take my RD over there in a month or so. They are terrible for emissions, but NOx is supposed to be no higher than a four stroke, I guess a badly running pre any emissions control four stroke It should be good for a laugh if they will allow it. But last time I was there they put my R1-Z on the dyno (it made 40bhp, same as a healthy TDR), they wouldn't use their lambda probe on a two stroke, understandably. Not sure how much more expensive an NOx sensor is!

Just wait until it becomes 40yrs old and register the Taxation Class as "Historic", then it'll be exempt anyway lol
