You know your have a shit day when you try to fit the wheels and you decide to just check the wheel spindle is good fit before you try. Only to find it doesn't go all the way through?
Strange I thought I'll take it out and see the problem is... Hmmm now it won't come out?
After much thumping with a lump hammer it comes out bringing the bearing out with it!
so on inspection it looks like when I removed the old bearings I damaged the inner spacer and put a burr on it which the spindle has grabbed and forced it under the bearing
as I tapped it through.
So I took it to work and have tried to get it off there, but the little fu*ker is not having any of it. It has moved but only making thing worse.
Time for a cup of tea
As you can see this is were I've damaged the spacer while getting the old bearings out. no one to blame but myself I hadn't noticed it. but even so REALLY!!!

So we tried heating it Nope... Trust me when I say we are using a fair amount of force
Looks like another bearing and the old spindle
Move forward don't look back

My new cases are back from having the gear change shaft hole bored out for the Norbo bush mod while they had them I got them vapour blasted too
they are 250 cases but whatever my 350 wasn't a matching number holy grail to start with anyway and the damage although fixable wasn't worth it.
you can just see the plate i made to stop the damaged cases throwing chain lube over the carbs

So had to change the lower yoke as the forks looked out of line! it didn't look wrong or twisted but at the wheel spindle, it was splayed? I didn't think about it when I fitted the wheel. I've fitted a new one and it all slotted together perfectly it was even still green So the rest of today has been bolting on bits so I know where I'am with what I have got and what is still needed, Norbo will be getting a email anytime soon

Pix of the the bits bolted on to check fit and what scruffy bolts n nuts need changing,
while I still wait for my new loom
Before anyone asks I painted the front disc because the Harrison caliper doesn't cover the same surface area as the stock and I don't want it showing.
I have finally made my mind up to go back to stock bars for no real reason other than my old bars hit the tank on full lock, and the lock stops I had got lost.

More progress this week she now has working front and rear brakes. I had to use one of those clone master cyclinders as my old master cyclinder was from a TZR250 so as to work on my ace bars. I have to say I was very impressed seemed as good as the original.
As I'm still waiting on the new loom I'm moving on to start the strip of the motor and she is very dirty
So I'm trying to get as much crap off before opening it up.

So a question for experienced restorers on here I'm pretty mine isn't the only LC
to have road rash on the clutch cover. what is the best method in repairing it?

That doesn't look too bad compared to some. I'd get the case off and use wet and dry with a sanding block. The alloy is relatively soft and you can dress scratches out fairly easily with a bit of effort. Are you getting the cases powdercoated or 2 pack painted/rattle can ? Dusty

And for cleaning, I put the engine in a large plastic stacker box, and then use clean petrol to get as much crud off as possible. Especially underneath the cases that are hard to clean otherwise Dusty

Thank god I bought a impact gun, guys if you havent got one for £40 its a must
The sprocket nut and genny nut cam off with no effort didn't even need to hold the sprocket or rotor.
not sure what the hell has gone on with the taper on the crank?
and to be honest I would never have got the head off with out it as the head bolts had rusted
swelled and even the gun struggled to get them undone
my guard dog keeping watch
Hmm two left pistons
on .75 oversize

That will come up OK. I use a DA disk and go all around the cover to make it an even height. rdlccrazy.proboards.com/post/372160Jon

Dusty I wasn’t to sure yet, I was going to try rattle can them as see how they looked and then that gives me the option to powder coat at a later date if I’m not happy with the paint. I guess car body body filler would ok?

The barrels were a pig to get of as well but as you can see the studs are a mess so not suprising really
but as I have nice new cases it doesn't really matter.

Finally got the old head bolts out of the head. we had to use a fair bit of heat though.
I cleaned it up and found out that it looks like a Stan stevens ST3 tune for a Mr smith"
it always was a peaky bugger really fast to 100 mph and then if you held it to long or had a pillon it would seize. Only a light piston seize wait ten minutes and you could get home and if it wasn't to noisy I would leave it

Took the head and barrels into Martin at Taymar's he's going to to the rebore
he said that she was in a pretty high tune for the road
Also, we spoke about how she used to seize a lot and he confirmed I was running a 250 oil pump! So I guess Norbo will be getting more of my money
